Forums - Gaming Discussion - DriveClub - a case for an updated review.

We all have read the reviews of the game - usually written in the week either side of release - and it wasn’t pretty.  Whilst a solid single player experience, the constant issues connecting to the servers, buggy online, the absence of the club feature & challenges all led to reviewers slating the game.

Evolution though has done a tonne of work on the game with the servers being much more stables, challenges now being available, club features working and to top it off the best weather effects I have seen in a console racing game.  Reviews in my opinion are a snapshot of the game at a given time and as the game changes and evolves reviewers should amend and update the reviews they put with the game.  Driveclub has changed a great deal since release and I feel this warrants a new review.  I have seen the arguments put forward that harsh reviews at release should be an incentive for good quality working games to be released but in the same way, when a developer puts the time and effort into correcting the problems and adding to the game they should be rewarded in a way by having their work reviewed again.

I do sympathise with reviewers as they do come in for a great deal of criticism from the general public.  They are often working to a tight schedule and they know every word they mention will be scrutinised.  With a review evolving just as a game does, I feel that we the public will be able to get a better picture of the game we want to buy.  For example, what exactly is the point of reading a review of a game like Battlefield 4 written in Nov 2013 when the game has changed so much in the last couple of months?  Reviews should be informative and current.

I don’t expect them to revisit every game at every update but as major features are added, issues corrected and the game changes it would be nice to see these reflected in the reviews.  Drive Club would be a great place to start.

No.

Look at the original review. Look at the update. See if the update includes stuff you want. If so buy, if not, move along. No game deserves to eb re-reviewed.

Better luck next time Evolution.

Reviews point is to inform their readers about the game. If the reviewer updated and post it again then it might guide few gamers who are interested in it which they can miss it without this mostly. This game deserves sales and the developers did great job in details to make immersive racer created so far.

GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

For some games a re-review is necessary or can simply be helpful to put all information about a game in one place, however, sites like Polygon that went in and changed their original review, to reflect the online issues, have an obligation to go back and do another review, now that those issues have been fixed.

But, largely, the damage has already been done. Reviews are generally for Day 1/Week 1 buyers. I don't generally look at reviews months after a games release, I generally rely on other peoples impressions. So, in that regard, Polygon updating their score, means little because Driveclub already launched and the hype that positive reviews create, won't really effect its sales any longer.

Yes, I agree with reviewing it again after updates to see if issues have been corrected that sounds fair, if you as me!

They re reviewed it when the game had connection problems, now that those are solved isn't it fair to bump the score up? Howcome you can bump the score down when it's not working but when they finally fix it and they add new content you don't bump the score back up.

'Lets Re-review Driveclub' with a poll included.

Maybe adjust the topic slightly to include games overall? Something like, 'Launch day. Should a review reflect on updates?'

Because at launch if the game is buggy etc and has not been apparent in the review copy, reviewers have every right to alter their score to reflect what everybody else will be experiencing.

As far as noting the developers efforts, thats up to Sony if they want to greenlight DC 2.

The ones who got the score down after the first review would be ridiculous to not get it over again now.

This at least does seam partially fair. Perhaps as a comment /  foot notes, but certainly should not alter the score.

We shouldn't go there.. Then every freaking game is gonna want to be re-reviewes after every patch.. We shouldn't encourage developers to produce half assed games at launch..
