Forums - General Discussion - What would happen if our Moon exploded?

Clangers were little creatures from a UK TV show called Clangers. They lived on the moon and communicated via whistles.

Vicious looking thugs if you ask me.

They kind of remind me of pikmin, who happen to react to whistles.

What's a soup dragon? I'm kind of hoping for nightmares tonight.

Watch some Vsauce videos on Youtube. They're awesome.

We wouldn't have any werewolf movies anymore. And Mel Gibson wouldn't survive Apocalypto.

Ummm.... the night's sky wouldn't look as pretty?

Actually , I think for thousands of years it would be like we had millions of stars right on the edge of our Atmosphere....until our gravity sucked the moon fragments into our atmosphere and the raining fire rushed to earth killing billions....

Oh....Revelations from the bible. Destroyed by fire! Angels could destroy the moon to make this happen.

Even if it was blown up the gravity would still hold the pieces together in a massive rockcluster. It's entirely possible that it could continue it's normal orbit even if it broke to pieces. All of this of course depends on where, and how big the explosion is. Currently, the moon is moving away from us, granted it's only ~1.5 inches a year, but it's still slowly but surely drifting away from us. There is actually a moon that has been broken to pieces that orbits Saturn (?), which is held together by gravity.

how do you even come up with these things

Been away for a bit, but sneaking back in.

Gaming on: PS4, PC, 3DS. Got a Switch! Mainly to play Smash
