At least he still has a job. He is being transferred to General Manager for the Interactive Entertainment Business in the US .

you cant really blame him the x1 had and has no japanese games, The original xbox had sega the 360 last odessy, last remnant and blue dragon. The x1 has only D2

And, yet; the 360 only has around 1.6 million sales lifetime in Japan. The whole xbox concept and product line quite simply doesn't work in Japan, I would have thought that MS had taken note of that at this point. MS should focus on US and UK and get as much as possible out of their best markets, paired with a slight push into Europe. Japan is a waste of time for all three with their home consoles, but doubly so for Microsoft.

1.6 million is still way more than 39k. And its important to have japanese games as also a lot of westerners buy these games. Look at the end circle of the xbox 360 and ps3 how the sony console got all the jrpgs at the end. And its allready starting and will get way worse see, akiba trip

Still don't get why MS even bothered releasing it there, but i guess it's good fan service.

Japan is just one of many countires that have X1. Having their console avialable in many countries doesn't mean they're pouring a lot of resources in those countries.

Kind of a shame really, even as little as the 360 sold there it was an improvement over the original, can't say the same for the XBO.

But actually Japan is not just like any other country. It is a very specific country which requires large localization and translation efforts in order to even sell the product.

It probably sells a  little bit better than countries like Portugal, Sweden or Denmark, but not enough to justify such huge costs, when you can easily sell the game in those other countries in English, without need to dub it into their native language. Heck, you can even skimp on subtitles and put in a minimal effort to translate the box-art.

Comapring the amount of sales opposite to costs, Japan and then China are definitely the most expensive markets to get into, while the expense of launching into for example Latin America is considerably lower, even if the sales fail to match the dismal numbers of those two countries.

How can people trade out consoles and PC for Mobile games? can't have both? Phones are brainwashing people..

If you're satifyed with one thing. There is no reason to keep or own the other. It's a waste of space. It be like arguing that You have to keep the VHS/DVD/BD copy of a movie. When you're content with 1 version.

Well most games on X1 are multiplat so the translation work is done for other platforms as well.

For 1st party games, I assume they put minimal effort in translation kinda like some Japanese games in the west.

Japan is continuing to shift away from home consoles and that country is no longer treated as a priority. The money invested in that region is also getting smaller, by MS and Sony.

Why did Microsoft even bother releasing Xbone in Japan?
