I didn't read the article, but I assume it's ultimately about bringing Nintendo games to PlayStation and Xbox.

It's the oher fairy tale, how Nintendo would get third parties on board by making a powerful console. This time the twist is that for it to happen said console needs a Disney logo on it. Which makes me question if Soundwave is a writer for Polygon.

I never said Disney should buy Nintendo, more that Nintendo could make a partnership with Marvel/Disney (Marvel primarily) for games, similar to the deal they had in the 1990s with LucasArts and Star Wars exclusive games.

Disney would have to pay $25, probably really $30+ billion to get Nintendo, that's just too much money to spend. Maybe if things go bad for Nintendo over the next 10 years, Disney will come lurking like a vulture when they can get in for a lower price, but not before IMO.

Around the Network

I'd just fear a repeat of what happened to Rare. I like Nintendo s they are and am resident to the idea of change, be it a buy out by Disney or, god forbid, they go the way of Sega.

Could the thread title be changed to "Polygon Clickbait Bullshit"?

Cheers.

Yup.  Just because something seems obvious doesn't mean it's the smart thing to do.  I'm also laughing at the fact that when this popped up on NeoGaf that people were saying Disney are good at IP management.  Yeah I don't know about that.  While they are decent at movie production, to the big screen, their direct to video stuff is mostly quite bad.  I'm still not sure what made them do sequels to some of this stuff.

In any case, Disney and Nintendo should collaborate more, not Disney buy them out.  Since apart from not being possible, I';m not seeing any great benefits to either company.

I remember Rare doing a Mickey kart game(based off of DKC iirc, but I don't think it was that great), and I think they could just re-use that MK8 engine for a Disney Kart racer.  Stuff like that, and Disney could help Nintendo make movies using their IPs.  Doesn't even have to be major productions.

First, Iron Man blew up just before Disney bought Marvel not after.

Secondly, it is more likely that Nintendo sells themselves to Namco Bandai or merge with Sega Sammy then sellout to a Western company, unless Disney would essentially agree to turn Nintendo into Disney of Japan and give its executives control over the Disney brand in that particular region of Asia.
