Some of you may not know me but I'm quite knowledgable in economic analysis. I'm a Playstation follower for some years now.

Yesterday I was just doing some work with charts and I saw Sony's situation and... Wow. Sony is in deep, deep trouble. That's not even a forsee, that's happening right now.

Let's just see : http://ycharts.com/companies/SNE

It's all quite complicate information but I'll translate some for you :

- Sony have no more cash. But really, they are even at loss with -64 million dollars. For a small comparison they had 4 BILLION past year. Just for comparison, Microsoft have 7000 billion in free cash, Apple 1000 billion, Google 4000 billion, Nintendo something like 3 Billion (not very reliable information on it)

- The value of the company has drop from 34 billion, to approx 24 billion in less than one year, wich could be translated as : Sony has less than one year and a half to get their shit up before someone buy them for less than 10 Billion. Shit just got real.

- Stock is 20 dollars. Wich is really, really LOW. Even in split times.

Never liked those doom thread, but Sony is in really, really deep shit right now. Sony is almost bankroute people.

Hmmm I think you're reading the whole thing wrong and your information is factually incorrect (MS, Apple, Google having 7 trillion, 1 trillion, 4 trillion in cash, for example).

- Sony has 3.93 billion in cash right now (http://finance.yahoo.com/q/ks?s=SNE+Key+Statistics)

- Market cap is one way to measure a company's value, but you shouldn't take that at face value. If Sony chooses to sell Sony Pictures, for example, I would guess that would net them about $20B alone. Regardless the market cap has gone up in recent months.

- You're talking about ADR as the stock is in JPY, regardless, the ADR was at $9/share about two years or so ago. It has actually rebounded.

Not saying they are a healthy company right now, they aren't. However, they aren't on the bottom of the pit

I always felt Sony could have a market cap at least as big as samsung (~20B vs ~140B), if they weren't so mismanaged. Kaz has plans, but needs to implement them and implement them quickly.

Don't think the OP ever said they were at the bottom of the pit, jsut that they are in trouble, and from your post, it seems you are in agreement.  On the other hand though, out of MS, Nintendo, and Sony, and taken everything into consideration(company size, departments), they are technically at the bottom of that particular pit.

I am in agreement that Sony is not in a healthy position. I wouldn't say they are in trouble. I also don't agree with incorrect 'facts' :)

I think you must have miss typed the amount of cash MS, Google and Apple have. I'm pretty sure MS doesn't have almost 3 times the UK's GDP in cash

Which kindergarten did you learn your economic analysis? They have 1,546,369.00 MILLION YEN of cash and short term equalivalents as of last reported quarter. Microsoft does not have 7000billion free cash, wtf are you smoking? Btw 7000billion, we actually call that 7 trillion in economic circles. And you can buy off almost half the USA's national debt with 7 trillion.

Let me know which kindergarten you study at and I will drop off some cookies to you.

None of these companyies have trillions of dollars. There's only like $60-70 trillion in all of the world (lol I remember when the RIAA tried to sue people for more money than actually existed in the world) and that includes all physical money, checking and savings accounts, CDs, stocks etc. You think MS has 10% of the world's money?

I'm gonna chalk this up to a typo. A hilariously bad typo. Because even if you take off a 0, Micorosft still doesn't have 700B and Google doesn't have 400B (although Apple does have over 100B)

Sony needs to build their entire consumer electronics division around the PlayStation-brand and PlayStation-plattform, with PlayStation 4 as their central communications hub. Their entire main businessplattform should be built around that central communications hub. Hardware systems to be supported in a cross plattform user interface should be:

1. PlayStation 4 [Turned into a Game Focused Entertainment System] (businessmodell spanning between 2013-2020, with a possible successor ready for release in 2018)

2. PlayStation Vita [Primarily used for remote play for PlayStation 4, and as a touch screen controller for PlayStation 4) (2011-2016, with a possible successor in 2015)

3. PlayPhone [Sony's true answer to iPhone] (the first such phone should be released in the end of 2015, in four different sizes; S, M, L and XL, and followed by a new modell with four different sizes each year)

Key is connectivity between these three main hardware plattforms, where each plattform enhances the capabilities of the others.

A secondary businessmodel should be Sony Intellectural Property, where all entertainment and software development, as well as trademarks and copyrights, should be gathered. This includes development, production and publishing of games, movies, software tools, music, e-books and live performances.

Anything else should be scrapped as soon as possible.

Playstation in the hands of Google or Amazon or Apple would be game over for MS. The chances of them ever making their billions back would be gone.

It would destroy PlayStation for me though...

why? if they kept all the PLaystation guys on it would benefit even more. They would be able to invest more in games development that Sony could ever dream of. Plus MS couldn't afford to buy 3rd party exclusives.

Because there's much more money to be made in mobile and tablet gaming, they'd stop focusing on the PS4

Obviously the OP wanted to use 7000 million etc. as it is more impressive than $70B if you're going for ooohs and aaahs. Then forgot to change the b to an m. Embarrassing (sp?) but not thread busting. I'm just never going to react well to being told 'it's complicated but'. Either assume I'm not an idiot or don't speak to me at all. You'd be surprised what we, 'the chartz' are capable of understanding.

The single most significant change at Sony recently was the announcement that there wouldn't be a stock payout this year. That will make the next shareholders meeting more interesting but considering that the mobile writedown should be the last and PS's apparent return to glory, they may be alright. They'll be doomed again real soon.

quite knowledgable in economic analysis huh?

This might well be true but the typo's in the OP hurt the "information" being presented in my opinion.

That said... what is the point of the OP, I'm not sure I understand? That Sony have access to no money now? so all their employee's are not being paid? Kaz can't afford food when he goes for his lunch break? Should we start sending Sony food donations?

Are they really going to be Bankroute[sic] soon?

Why not check me out on youtube and help me on the way to 2k subs over at www.youtube.com/stormcloudlive

Sony have not even begun asking their investors for money.

They would have been in big trouble if they had done that without getting any.

Don't copy random editorials.

Yeah, Hirai needs to go.
