Forums - Gaming Discussion - Best characters from the seventh gen?

It is more often than not that a well-written, charismatic character can carry out a game better than the plot itself. In fact, it's difficult to elaborate a great story without characters who really stand out.

At times, not even a story is needed for a game to be good/great/awesome. But the cast? It can be the spotlight of the game. Would Star Fox be the same without its iconic pilots? Would Portal be as memorable without GLADOS? Can Uncharted be as good as it is without Sullivan? Characters are the key. And for that, I'd like you, VGC, to tell who are the most memorable characters you can remember from the seventh gen!

I'd like to elaborate a list that reflects VGC's overall opinion, so the rules are these:

· You can put up ten characters. No more, but you're allowed to put less if you feel like.

· Only characters that spawned in games of the seventh gen or that were created in a different gen but they appear in a seventh gen game. That means ground-up games for Ps3, Wii, 360, DS, PSP and PC games that belong to this era, or sequels to different gen games.

· Every place will represent the points given to that character. The 10th gets 1 point. 9th gets 2 points... 1 gets 10 points. Easy, right?

· If you put less than ten characters, points given will go in proportion. If you only list seven characters, the seventh one will count as three points.

· It doesn't matter the role of the character in the game: he can be the main protagonist, the antagonist, the evil villain, the extra or the clown that pops up five seconds in a specific sequence. If you can (and want), briefly explain your choices.

· This is also a place of discussion. If you're interested to further know some other user's choice, ask him. We're here to socialize and have fun. If you think someone's choice is poor, discuss it too. But bear in mind: always be respectful towards others. Do NOT mock someone for his choices. Do NOT use information here (or outside this thread) to laugh at some users. You can disagree all you want, but remember that opinions are that: opinions.

· Please, only one post containing your choices. If you want to add another one, just say that you edited the old post in a new one instead of posting new characters every once in a while.

· It would help to some people to also say what game do the character belongs.

Have fun!

10. Victor Sullivan (Uncharted)

The <Ladies man> and the only reason Nathan is still alive after all these years.

9. Dominic Santiago (Gears of War)

Second Player. Loyal friend. Fought for what he cared about. Also his beard was badass on the third game.

8. Hal “Otacon” Emmerich (Metal Gear Solid 4)

Probably the greatest character in the Metal Gear Solid franchise. The games would have never been the same without his codec conversations and his lost love.

7. Frank West (Dead Rising)

He’s covered wars, y’know. He also made the departure of the classic “beautiful Japanese” Capcom protagonist for a zombie game.

6. Raven (Tales of Vesperia)

What seems to be the most simple character of the cast, ends up being one of the most interesting of the whole game. Also, his victory quotes and skits convos are the best of the best.

5. Garrus Vakarian (Mass Effect)

He, plus the one that comes next, is the proof that Bioware may not be good at writing endings, but they sure as hell know how to do a memorable character.

4. Alistair Theirin (Dragon Age: Origins)

This is probably one of the best support characters ever created in Bioware’s History. Faithful, loyal, and the only one who doesn’t leave your group (unless you’re very, very mean to him close to the endgame).

3. Erica Anderson (Catherine)

Probably the best character of the game due to her happy-go-lucky but insightful persona, and often the main support of Vincent in his worst moments of despair. Her sexuality is handled in a very mature way, too.

2. Norman Jayden (Heavy Rain)

I loved how socially awkward this dude is. I loved how he’s the only one in Heavy Rain who is surrounded by jerks and has no real support character at his side unlike Ethan, Madison or Scott. I also loved how little luck Jayden seems to have. And finally, I love how he’s the character people in HR seems to care less about, yet he cares a lot about everyone else.

1.Francis York Morgan (Deadly Premonition)

“Right, Zach?” was not only the catchphrase throughout the game, but also the realization of how important York was to a certain someone, and how he changed the lives of everyone else, for better. His smooth persona and his silver tongue also grants him the no.1 spot on my list.

Not enough Catherine in your list, also a complete lack of Catherine on your list =P

It's even better if you achieve Katherine's True Ending xD
