Forums - Nintendo Discussion - Rodea: The Sky Soldier seems to have been revived - 3DS/WiiU; Japan in 2015

Prope's long-awaited action game finally set for release.

Rodea the Sky Soldier, formerly a Wii and 3DS title, is now coming to Wii U and 3DS in spring 2015, the latest issue of Famitsu reveals.

The Wii U version will cost 7,200 yen and the 3DS version 5,800 yen.

In Japan, the game was previously known as Tenkuu no Kishi Rodea. It is now called Rodea the Sky Soldier. However, Japanese blogs list the first-print Wii U version of the game as including the Wii version of Tenkuu no Kishi Rodea.

The Prope-developed, Kadokawa-published action game features fre 360-degree movement throughout the skies and super gigantic boss battles. It puts players in the role of Rodea, a machine soldier who lost his memory and is discovered and reactivated by Ion. Both characters, as well as a mysterious girl named Cecilia, appear in Famitsu.

The game is produced by Kadokawa Games’ Yoshimi Yasuda and directed by Kadokawa’s Zin Hasegawa, formerly the producer. Development is 85 percent complete.

Given that we haven’t heard from it in a while, we took the liberty of translating the story and character details from the game’s old website. Get that below.

Story

A special day and a special promise made to a certain someone…. In an adventure that will cross time and space, when the Naga Empire comes to attack the floating land of Garuda, Rodea, a legendary machine, wakes up from his 1000-year slumber to fight back.

Characters

  • Rodea (voiced by Yuichi Nakamura) – The protagonist. A high-performance robot with the ability of flight developed as part of the top-secret “R Project.” One day, in order to keep his promise with a certain someone, he passes through time to battle the machine soldiers of the Naga Empire.
  • Ion (voiced by Kana Hanazawa) – The heroine. A likable girl who tinkers with machines and lives in the floating country that is Garuda. She sets off on an adventure to protect Rodea and Garuda. Her face is similar to that of Cecilia, a princess rescued from Garuda 1,000 years prior.
  • Cecilia – The legendary princess. 1,000 years ago, carrying a dark secret of some sort, she attempted to flee her native land the Naga Empire and go to Garuda. Her wishes are the catalyst for the storyline.

What is this? I'm kind of interested, since I'm having blissful fantasies about this game.

I WON A BET AGAINST AZUREN! WOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

:3

Please tell me your not lying?? This would be huge news... well at least it would be for us who were hyped for it.
Seriously though I had forgotten about this, just kind of pressumed it had died off.

It seems that development was transfered from Wii to WiiU. Nice
I hope it gets a localization...

The scans look okay I guess but they are pretty small. In any case I'm guessing touch screen controls for Wii U and 3DS with optional pointer controls for Wii U?

Seems to be a mix of nights with panzer dragoon. Looks interesting and i'm sure it will be good. Nintendo should buy Prope. Yuji Naka's genious is going to waste under kadokawa.

this is great news

Why do I get the feeling this will be Japan exclusive?
