Was it really that bad on PS3?

The interface lagged to hell whenever you used it in game. Plus everything made you shutoff the running program. Except Messaging. Check a video, photo, Throphie check, PSN store: "This will end the current program." Playing DVD/BD orphaned the system. You couldn't do anything. No messaging, backgorund download, nothing.

Well dang ... I knew that the PS3 had some issues in that area, but that it was this bad. Well at least it had some amazing exclusives. And isn't that all that counts with a gaming console. ;)

I agree entirely Vivster, i just dont want to have that argument with every single person that belive that the changes from last gen to new gen are almost cero, and i would like to add the following:

For those of you dissapointed with the lack of quality or content of the recent next gen games like watchdogs, titanfall or destiny, i must tell you that such a thing is normal for the first games of a generation, and they will only improve (dramatically on quality and content from now on).

Just remember the first PS3 games (Bladestorm, Genji days of the Blade, Heavenly Sword, Lair) and then compare them to the games that came later and the ones that came near the end of the generation. ( Uncharted 2, 3, The Last of Us, God of War 3, Demons Souls, Valkirya Chronicles, Tales of Graces F, Xillia 1, 2, Disgaea 4, D2, Metal Gear Solid 4,Assassins Creed 2, Brotherhood, Revelations, 4, Farcry 3, Deus Ex etc)

games will only get better and better, thats how it is every generation.

this made me feel good that i didnt buy ps3! LOL

bash the previous gen to make the new gen smell better....

oh btw ps3 and ps4 is not the only system each gen :P

I think there is nothing wrong with upgrading for graphics.

But there is nothing gameplay-wise, that the new systems can do that the old ones can't. Unless you count better kinect or whatever. If you say there is something, you are wrong. Older systems could do it, it just wouldn't look as pretty.

Last gen the jump was more pronounced. Wii had motion gaming which was really cool at the time, and PS360 introduced HD graphics which were a dramatic jump if you had an HDTV. Also, online experiences took a major step forward and games could also be downloaded. Past system games were now available too. This was all very major and crazy stuff that wasn't available before. Nothing on the new systems compare.

But that doesn't mean the new systems aren't good or worth it.

You should have put this thread in the Sony section, not gaming. Your OP does not apply to X360.

I have a PS3 and a X360. In comparison to PS3 the X360 interface is incredibly fast and well organized. The download times are also much faster. I decided to use my 360 for internal or external apps like MS Video, Watchever or Arte+7 until MS pulls the trigger.

It applies to Nintendo stuff, though.

DS -> 3DS: An actual analog stick slider, improved social features, usable multitasking, 3D, remotely usable browser, multitasking?

Wii -> Wii U: GamePad, a good eShop, a quick OS and browser, improved social features?

I have all 4 systems you mentioned and Nintendo is the only company where I don't care about their (still pretty clumsy imo) interfaces. They don't market their systems as media hubs after all. Yes, there are improvements but I buy Nintendo systems despite their interfaces.🙈 If I would care about their interfaces I'd have to complain about them like the OP about his PS3.

I'm going to quote the OP:

There is this argument that the change from old to new gen isn't big enough. Just a few more pixels and particles. That the gameplay experience is the same on old gen consoles if you don't care about graphics.

[...]

So screw anyone who says that the upgrade to current gen isn't worth it by only citing graphical differences. Graphics are nice but regardless of the pixels I will have been playing for an hour by the time last gen users passed all loading screens.

It doesn't matter if you don't care, the point is that there have been big improvements on the Nintendo side aside from just graphics.

In fact, I could say the same about the PSP -> PS Vita.

I agree wholeheartedly. Nintendo has come a long way as well and I think their OS and browser is probably the fastest of the bunch. I can immediately jump into my game within 30 seconds of powering on my gamepad. Jumping into the web browser mid game is very seamless as well. It is miles better than when the console first launched and they continue to improve it.

Seriously? I have a Wii U and the OS is garbage. It takes at least 7 seconds to open up any app.

To add with your post, developers got a really hard time with the complicated hardware from the HD consoles, they took a long time to mastered them to we can finally see the games that we are seeing in the last years.

But now that the situation is totally inverted, it should take less time to we see something really jawbreaking graphic and gameplay-wise. It will be nice when it happens but I won't deposite my hopes on the ps4, it really need to prove what that specs is capable of, numbers and graphic comparisons won't convince me
