I guess I don't understand why it takes so long to earn badges?

They aren't automatic. The process to update them has to be started manually. So unless ioi runs the update you can't unlock any badges.

kinda strange that ioi doesn't use a cronjob to run that script.. its not like he has to pin the badges manually on every member..
