Forums - Nintendo Discussion - I'm Starting To Feel Zelda U Isn't Coming Until 2016

Whoa Whoa Whoa. They have been working on this game since 2011 since they showed it at E3. It's coming out May(to help summer sales ala MK8) or the Holiday of 2015 GUARANTEED. It was going to release this holiday remember but they pushed it back. Also, seeing another article talking about it makes me believe it is almost done.

It's not coming in May. It's being shown at E3 next year.

they said they could show the game in 2013 E3, but didnt cos WWHD.
let zelda for 2015 and pokken for 2016.

also, handheld wont come in 2016. i would bet.

I can't see any logical here, but since is Nintendo I wouldn't be surprised

I still think Smash Bros is getting delayed to 2015. Nintendo has been really caught off guard by HD development this gen.

I think I'll stick with 2014. Jose has a bet with other IGN editors that it will release this holiday.

Well the other issue then too is ... what's the big amiibo game for 2016?

Pokken makes a lot more sense in this case. That just seems like a concept perfectly designed for selling amiibo toys.

I'm not saying Nintendo *will* do this for sure, but definitely I can start to see a scenario where it's now plausible.

Nintendo announces a Pokemon fighting game for the arcades in Japan= Zelda will be delayed.

Because fuck logic.

It'll be Holiday 2015. They don't usually show a full announcement of the new Zelda games until the E3 before release.

As for Star Fox U, I actually don't think that will be a monster sized project. Probably a very small type of game with episodic content, Miyamoto pretty much said as much.

Seems like they already have several gameplay concepts for it, they'll likely just beef that up into a full game with another 12-14 months of development. Voila ... Star Fox U (Episode I?).

More like many people were wondering if Zelda wasn't going to be delayed anyway, and now looking at their potential 2015 roster, they have a pretty full potential lineup even without Zelda. It's open to speculation. It's not like they absolutely *need* the game for next year now.

I don't even think Zelda U really plays that integral of a role in the Wii U's ultimate fate ... that will largely be decided before. If MK8, 3D World, NSMBU, and Smash U can't get the system to sell above GameCube levels, then really Zelda U isn't going to either.

Yes holidays generally mean bigger sales, but moving it into the launch window of a new Nintendo handheld launch would also likely buoy its net sales for 30-60% extra if not more.

It's a logical scenario, much like moving Twilight Princess to Wii did make a lot of sense, mind you Nintendo at that time had no idea the Wii was even going to be such a huge seller and there were a lot of people initially upset by that decision, but really in the long run it just made way more financial sense.

He never said it would have episodic content... he said the game would be more episodic, more like a TV show and less like a movie.

I think what he means by this is that the game will have several adventures that go on and on, unlike Star Fox SNES and 64 where it's just one short set of missions. Still, even if it is just a small game, there's no way it's coming out next year. It's very clear they've only now begun development on it, it'll take 2 years at the very least.

I don't think so, not all games get budgeted for a 2 year dev cycle, I'm guessing Star Fox isn't big enough of an IP to warrant a large scale HD development budget.

It seems like they already have a lot of gameplay concepts too, they didn't show it to the public but the press did get to play actual Star Fox flight levels with basic graphics. Generally that's how Nintendo works, they build the gameplay first and then the graphics come online later.

But I think Star Fox will also be pushed to market because it seems expressly made to satisify a mandate -- that being Miyamoto showing off a bunch of concepts that use the Wii U Pad (for better or worse). So that robot sumo game and that camera command mini-game that Miyamoto showed at E3 will likely be integrated into this new Star Fox title.

To be honest most games only get 18 month dev cycles in this industry too. Assuming they'd already been working on that project for about 6-8 months, a late 2015 release is pretty close to a 2 year dev cycle.
