I haven't noticed much at all, but I agree that sexism should be kept off the gaming discussions.

That being said, I think defining "sexism" would also help people out. It's a pretty wide term that engrosses all kinds of conduct.

Defining sexism could be useful. That'd take some doing though, as inevitably it comes down to choosing a 'line' for acceptable conduct.

Today, in one particular thread, a whole raft of people got banned for pretty blatant stuff.

On the other hand, the thread that kljesta64 linked too above contains material that could be considered sexist, and was noted as such by some posters. Others would view it as innocuous banter.

Ultimately I think it should be clear to most people (who consider their posts) that if there is any confusion in your mind, you probably shouldn't be hitting 'submit.'

i was saying you should define the term because ultimately as the mod you get final say on what is acceptable or not so i figured we should see your definition and abide by it

At no point did I ever specify that males only are perves?

Assuming we're referring to the same post, I commented that anyone and everyone inserting themselves unreasonably into the sex life of a woman (as in that instance, it was a woman) was being a perve. Though perhaps I should have used the term voyeur.

Don't feel you need to regret comments like this, constructive discussions are welcome.

Well to my knowledge, it was only really males (often referred to a MRAs by another poster) on that side of the discussion, however, the main point is that you pretty much referred to numerous posters (not by name) as perverts, which is certainly an insult (and insulting other users is against the rules), whether or not it could be considered sexist. I think there were valid reasons to be interested in the situation and the discussion of the situation, although I do believe that some of your bannings were certainly just. Some people went too far, whether they were joking or not. Its just that with sexism, people always assume that it is against females, or rather, by a certain group of people (mysogynists) where comments on the other side of the discussion can be just as offensive and yet they often get overlooked.

I'm glad you are open to constructive critisism. Some other sites I've been on have been a little trigger happy when it came to critiques of the moderation staff.

I find it very screwed up that you banned my account that I had for four years. I am deeply offended that I would get treated this way simply for trying to express myself.

Fair enough, maybe thats a discussion the mods can look at having then (I try to stick to moderating only blatant comments myself, rather than trying to navigate the 'line' I referred too).

Interesting, I didn't know this was an issue loll. The only time I seen someone be remotely sexist is when they call another user a women but thats in a joking way so I don't really think its offensive

But yea, sexism should be kept off the forums

All I wanted to do was to shed some light on immoral practices in the videogame journalism industry, I thought I was doing something good. But nope, apparently I was trying to slut shame and attack a woman that I don't even know or really care about.

Moderated - Starcraft.

Alts are permitted to communicate with Mods directly about your ban only.

True. I think a lot of people don't know what is innoucous banter, or moderation-worthy sexism. Each person will have different definitions for the term, just as how each mod will probably view each post differently as well in terms of finding the content just a joke that's borderline banworthy or just pure bannable.

Of course, it is pretty hard to define a term like "sexism" which encompasses so much different conduct, but a lot of people don't use common sense when posting, so "think before you post" might not work for a lot of people.

Fair enough, next time I will be clearer if I can. I was mostly referring to the people that reddit had already banned. As Mr Khan said, if reddit is banning you you should sit up and take notice.

On the broader point, I wont wade into whether the MRA specifically is a reasonable avenue for supporting men's rights, but I agree that sexism can be and often is directed at both sexes.
