Forums - Gaming Discussion - About how the community reacts to moneyhatting (please read the OP first)

After all the outcry about Tomb Raider being a timed exclusive, I've noticed a lot of people that have claimed that "it's only bad when Microsoft does it" or "people don't care when Sony does it".

Here's the thing: When Sony does it we aren't complaining, you are! Could you imagine that, that the very same persons that now says "suck it up, it's business, not a charity" were whining when Sony announced timed exclusive dlc for a new franchise. This is about Destiny of course, and the particular deal is tiny compared to the Tomb Raider deal. Here's examples from every fanbase, complaining about that deal (thanks to Bananaking for finding them):

Conclusion: It's not "only bad when Microsoft does it" it's bad when anyone does it!
Edit: Guys, you're missing the point, it's about the fact that the same people that tells us to "suck it up" when Company A are doing it, complains when company B are doing it. It's hypocrisy.

this isnt exactly about moneyhatting, this is more of a letter to the community, and how often they generalize when talking about fanbases. the issue here is the generalizations that keep accuring, and that are quite frankly false, proved by the posts that i dug up from just one thread, this isnt about the deal between ms/square.

as an example for the false generalizations i speak off, here are some posts from the thread i made posted the examples in. keep in mind, this is just one thread, and just from the first two pages.

i am not calling out people here, what i am doing is showing that these types of "X fanbase are so blah blah blah" or "when X company does it its bad but when Y company does it everybody is ok with it" are just false and have no merrit to them. i certainly am not trying to upset anybody or any of the users i quoted here.

So it's standard practice that Tomb Raider is a timed exclusive

And it's standard practice that Sony has Destiny timed exclusive DLC

And it's standard practice that both MS and Sony moneyhat

Who really didn't know that ?

Current example:

"Dreamfall was one of the last great adventure game series’ before Telltale brought about a modern resurgence. Over the years, fans have hoped for a third game in the series. It was because of this that the Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey Kickstarter made over 1 million dollars.

During the campaign, the episodic series was only announced for PC, with consoles a possibility. Now we know that Dreamfall Chapters is also coming to consoles – PS4 leading the charge.

Dreamfall Chapters is part of the “first on PlayStation” initiative which allows many digital titles some timed exclusivity on Sony’s consoles. Although it has not been announced for Xbox or Nintendo platforms, we may see that soon."

"First on Playstation" initiative sounds a lot like a moneyhat initiative...

That wasn't the point. The point is that people say "Suck it up", but when the roles are reversed they, instead of taking their own advice, starts complaining, just like us. Or they say "people only complain when it's company XXX that does it" when that is obviously BS.

There's a particular user that is guilty if this hypocrisy, but I won't mention names.

it actually shows it's exactly about moneyhatting and how, despite the petty moralism, it is a common practice

maybe so, but this thread isnt about this. its about how users tend to react when commenting on a fanbase. if you want to create a thread about money hatting and how its a commen practire despite its petty moralism, by all means do so. im just trying to explain, this thread is about the community, not about money hatting, the MS/square situation was just used as an example.
