I think it's sad because the thing is an impressive piece of hardware, perhaps just a bit overpriced.
If it happens to get cheaper in the future I perhaps will buy one.

the main thing is (IMO) is that is fucks up completely when trying to gain the interest of the mass market. it might be a great device, but it just isnt interesting. and that might be the problem.

I think the problem is that the whole standard PC market isn't gaining any interest, currently. People want to buy cool devices with Android or iOS, with apps and stuff. Thing is people don't associate the surface with this interests as they think they get a Windows on the go (which they also get, yes). But this is a problem MS currently has. A perception problem with potential customers. Be it Xbone or there WP platform which is very good, in my opinion. The Nokia devices are very good smartphones and the os is very nice, sleak and easy to use.

The problem with MS over the last decade or so is that they seem to be so late in joining the party. The pathetic Zune and now Surface are all about MS catching up with devices that had already been dominated by other companies on the market. Windows had phones long before Apple but they handled it badly.

With strong core products these losses are but a drop in the ocean.

My thoughts as well.  The products are great, they're just way too late entering these markets or in some cases re-entering, so that costs are bound to be high just to break in with the more experienced players.

Surface as a product is fine but the price is the problem.

Not sure why MS are so desperate to get into the hardware business in all areas.

They would be better partnering up with others to have something similar to Google's Nexus line, where someone else takes all the risk.

Tablets need to start a lot cheaper level than the surface ones.

And i know there more than a tablet, but thats what there being marketed as.

I have a surface 2, RT edition and it is by far the best tablet I've ever used (previos owner of an Asus transformer prime and HP envy X2). Sturdy, elegant, FAST, easy interface, it has it all. So from a purely egoistic point of view, I hope they keep committing. Btw, isn't Surface in the same division as XBox? Does this mean that XBox and android patents generate alot of money?

The Surface is an interesting piece of hardware but windows 8 is a problem. No apps, weird interface. And RT is just useless

RT is a dead end, in my opinion currently, but Surface also features x86-cpus.

Agreed.  I have a Surface 1 RT (Got it off a business deal with MS for $150 awhile back) and that app store is a joke.

I also have a Surface Pro2 and it is a great piece of hardware.   The pro's atleast lesson the blow of that terrible app store, but MS needs to put more effort into it.  Or as you said, let RT fall off its own cliff.

Android is just simly the better os on tablets than windows is.. Soenhow dumbing down the desktop version of w8 actually made it more convuluted than before.. Im fine sticking with 7 or even better a recreation of xp but with instant system searches and such like on newer OS,'s

Surface was several years too late, hundreds of dollars too expensive, and using Windows instead of Android.
It is hard to justify paying double for a tablet that runs only half the apps.

Surface is their next Zune, and will not be around much longer. Nadella already killed one model before launch (Mini), and the rest is expendable.

Wow, that's bad! They should just give up with those tablets or at least make cheaper versions.

I would love a surface. Down the line whem I'm done uni and actually start making money instead of just straight up losing money, I'll probably be able to afford one.

Thanks jlmurph!
