That's because we haven't many major IPs from either console makers. The biggest IP was probably Last of Us Remastered, which netted the PS4 tons of sales when it came out. I don't see why the MCC (which is arguably much bigger in terms of IP popularity and content) couldn't have similar effects for the Xbox One throughout the holiday season.

I never said it wasn't a system seller. I'm saying that exclusive advertising for multiplats just seems to be doing more this gen.

Not to mention, Microsoft has been exclusively marketing the hell out of Madden, Assassin's Creed, and Call of Duty as well, so by that logic Microsoft should do relatively well this holiday season.

Madden did help XBO. A lot actually. I'm sure AC Unity will have a bigger effect on XBO sales than Sunset Overdrive. Of course Microsoft will do well this holiday season. I never said otherwise.

Basically I was responding to your comment of Sony needing an "answer" for Microsoft's exclusives. I just don't think that's the case this gen.

Then I guess we'll just agree to disagree. I predict a huge sales bump for the One once MCC comes out, and a smaller one when Sunset Overdrive comes out. We'll see what happens.

I see people are still over estimating what halo remakes will do ( its just selling to the current fanbase), and don;t reralise multiplats will move more hardware then any exclusives will.  Remakes never have the same impact as new mainline games, that will be true foir MCC. Sunset won;t do much of anything.

Release embargos a day before release aren't too bad, it's the ones that are on release that you have to watch out for.

Any way, I think Microsoft's advetising strength can probably push a lot more SO copies/bundles than people are expecting.

I could be wrong though, we won't know until the game is out.

They are not a bad indicator about the quality of the game, but if the game is good, they do have an effect on its sales as many would buy it when its new if they already know about how well it has scored. Even review embargoes on the day of a game's release aren't any indicator of their quality.

Besides I don't think the game will be good. Insomniac's last two games were mediocre at best.

Fair enough.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Is there some kind of confusion as to what the term "Holiday" means? In regards to console sales?

If PS4 fails to hit 17 million before year end, that's more along the lines of a serious problem because of a falling out of momentum, that would otherwise be multiplied in holiday sales. At allegedly 11.4, since its definitely higher, thats 4.6 mil more sales. Having already sold 7 million in pre holidays, 6 - 8 million would be realistic, even 5 mil is pretty bad let alone 4.6.

15 millions will be done in november, 17 for the end of the year seem easy... i predict 18.5 millions.

Crazy how people underestimate november with black friday, all the games and december with christmas.

PS4 will without a doubt reach 17M by 2015, only 5M to sell in 3 month, november and december will be huge, remember the PS3 did 4,9M in the same period ( october -december 2007 ) , so it's totally crazy to think PS4 wont do at least that, and likely much better.

Good thread to bump in 2 month

Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:

 PS4: 17m   XB1: 10m    WiiU: 10m   Vita: 10m

PS4 basis is probily 250K. Without games.

My prediction for rest of year:

11 oct 300,000
18 oct 275,000
25 oct 260,000
1 Nov 280,000
8 Nov 350,000
15 Nov 400,000
22 Nov 450,000
29 Nov 1,000,000
6 Dec 700,000
13 Dec 900,000
20 Dec 1,200,000
27 Dec 800,000
3 Jen 300,000

My first post ever since joining tonight.
As for predicting the sales of ps4, last holiday they sold over 4mil with only having launched stock. This year they won't have that problem.

Sony should have way more stock available and as we've noticed ps4 is super popular in row. With fifa, Destiny, driveclub, and more, Sony should be just under or right the 13 million sold Mark as the 10 million sold was back in early August at gamescom.

So now with all of August, September and now over half of October done, I'm predicting ps4 to be at 12.5 - 13 million by end of October. And for the US, Sony should easily sell 2 million for November and December each month. Same for Europe and rest of world for a total of 8 million consoles sold for this holiday season.

So by December 31, I'm predicting Sony to be at 20million sold. I see most of these coming from Europe as ps4 is like a god over there this gen. Just look up the insane ps4 launch vids from there last year and you'll see that predicting anything 15million or lower for this year is just ridiculous.

17 million should be the minimum expectation. Up to the start of October it sold almost 12m LTD and more than 7.5m for the year. The year up to October is usually around half of what a console sells in the whole year, maybe a bit less than half. With these numbers, PS4 only needs 5m more in the last 3 months to reach 17m and 5m would be bad considering its done 7.5m already this year.

If Sony plays all their cards right by getting the 3 bundles to America and making sure there is plentiful supply, 20m isn't completely out of the question (very unlikely though).

I edited your numbers out of my ass as a guesstimate at what I think PS4's holiday could be (I expect it to be a little bit less), your October seems too high but I mostly agree apart from that

I initially predicted something like 16 million at max. But seeing with the Sept NPD PS had I'm changing my opinion of 16m to a minimum. I can now very well see PS beating 17m. It just keeps beating expectations. I imagine that come this Christmas, the PS4 will be almost sold out like last Christmas, especially across Europe.

However, people are saying PS4 is under-tracked on this site(which is very true) but as we're using this sites numbers, a large under-tracking will make a lot of predictions wrong. But now I'm predicting that PS4 will beat 17 million
