Forums - Gaming Discussion - New PS3 and PS4 models coming: linking the gap?

Sony just filled the registration for two new models of PS3/4 :

The PS4 has just been launched a few months ago, but Sony might already be planning to launch a new model of its new console. The manufacturer filed for the registration of two new “Computer Entertainment Systems” with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology of the Republic of Indonesia.

The filing, listed on the official website of the Directorate of General Resources and Equipment of Post and Information Technology, bears the model number CUH-1106A. This seems to indicate an evolution of the console, but not a radical redesign like the passage from the PS3 slim to the super slim, for instance, which is normally indicated by an incremental change of the first number of the code (the slim was launched with the model number CECH-2001A, while the super slim started with CECH-4001A).

They also announced a new manufacturing process for cell (smaller and more efficient) :

This was to be expected since, unlike Microsoft, Sony hasn't released a new PS3 model to accompagny the next gen console.

This  means that while a new PS4 model is unlikely, the announcment about a Cell reduced in size could mean that a slimer PS3 with a new design to match the PS4's, and eventually the new interface, could be released.

It is also possible that, the PS4 not being backward compatible and the PSNow service not being fully ready, Sony allows the two consoles to sit side by side and be connected?

99 euros/dollars PS3 incoming?

PS3 doesn't need a new model IMO.
Its also too soon for a PS4 slim model.

that news is almost 3 months old now, dualshockers reported it back in may about the new ps4 model, and im sure all the ps3 model is just a reduced size of the cpu and maybe a redesign of the case, but if that was the cose im sure we would have seen at least a leak by now of it.

Would be crazy if Sony dropped the price of the PS4.

So, the PS4 will have its internals changed. However, I don't think there will be a price cut because it is still way too soon. As for the PS3, it would be great for a new model to come out because the super slim design wasn't attractive.

Too soon for PS4 to get a remodel, surely that won't happen until 2016.

Supercheap PS3 sounds timely for 2015. One final push to try to reach 90 million +.

If there is plans for a new PS3, please... make it look good, Sony. My Super Slim already sounds like a hairdryer after 30 minutes. And I can't play after installing or updating because apart from getting insanely loud and vibrating, it crashes.

Just sounds like internal changes, die shrink, improved cooling, that sort of thing.

I wouldn't expect a full redesign (or price cut in the PS4s case) for quite some time.
