Forums - Movies & TV - Looks like Guardians of the Galaxy could have the biggest opening of the year!

I liked the movie, the beginning was terrible but it slowly picked up

The movie was very generic, I thought. And for a comedy, not very funny.

Guardians did very well on Monday its tracking ahead of Captain America 2 now so $250 million plus is possible domestically as long as its legs stay decent.

The decline could come in a little steep if turtles, step -up dance show and the holocaust movie steal the thunder. I'd say somewhere around 230 would be the best bet.

It will be over 230 million by Friday and should be ahead of Tranformers 4 by next Sunday or a couple of days after that, 260+ is pretty much guranteed now.  Getting very close to 300 million is a possibility.

The best it can have now is in the 260-270s not 300mn...but for that it should strictly continue the same weekly trend as Captain America managed with its long legs.

EDIT: forgot to mention SIN CITY 2 and IF I STAY opening this week could make an impact in the significant drop.

Will be over 260+ in two weeks anything after that is a bonus definetly a lot more then the 230 you predicted the only other movie coming out this year that is guranteed to make more is the next Hunger Games movie.  Interstellar has a outside chance not a huge Nolan fan but the trailers look amazing and it looks like Hans Zimmer saved his A level stuff for that movie I watched The Amazing Spiderman 2 and his score for that movie was sup par as was the whole movie.

looks like the movie has surpassed the BO expectations way past!

Just has to hold up on Saturday and Sunday now.

I was pleasantly surprised by how good this movie is.  It's not my favorite movie of the year so far but top 10 for sure.  I would imagine the new Hunger Games movie having a bigger opening but seeing that it's only part 1 it may not.  I'm really excited for the last Hobbit movie.  I hope it's going to be epic!!

The labor day did wonders to the Box office gross...I guess 300+ is a possibility now.

Labor Day gave it a huge boost its ahead of the first Iron Man now 320+ is possible.  Its almost ahead of Man of Steel also, that movie had very poor legs it added less then 10 million in its final 66 days of its domestic theatrical run.

Timing of releases do matter ultimately...There was the Brad Pitt Zombie movie and the animation Monsters which ate into its BO gross it could have achieved more.  May end of 2013 should have been the ideal time frame
