Forums - Sports Discussion - The NFL Thread 2014: New England Patriots Win Super Bowl XLIX

Who will win the Super Bowl?

Who cares? 41 36.61%

That AFC team. 29 25.89%

That NFC team. 5 4.46%

Hahaha, not the Packers! 25 22.32%

See Results. 9 8.04%

Total:109

Decent week, nothing changes tomorrow. I should just predict right away with instinct everytime lol. The only problem with that is muh teams lost and I voted for them. So could have had a +2.

can some1 tell me, why the seahawks have a wild Card spot, while Dallas is just in the hunt.
Dallas won the tiebreak game vs seattle

Seahawks are 6-2 in the NFC while Dallas is only 5-4.

okay, but i thought this

TO BREAK A TIE FOR THE WILD-CARD TEAM

If it is necessary to break ties to determine the two Wild-Card clubs from each conference, the following steps will be taken.

  1. If the tied clubs are from the same division, apply division tie breaker.
  2. If the tied clubs are from different divisions, apply the following steps.

Two Clubs

  1. Head-to-head, if applicable.
  2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.

There are three teams tied for the 2 wild card spots. Head to head only applies if possible in a two way tie, or if all teams in a three way tie have played each other. The Cowboys beat the Seahawks, but did not play the Lions. The Seahawks and Lions AFAIK have not and will not play. So the next step in that tie is conference record. Dallas loses out to both Seattle and Detroit in that regard.

Dallas is not in a good shape for the playoffs unless Philly slips up. They lost to the two NFCW teams that matter (I think Seattle will pass Arizona since Palmer got hurt) and they have a tough schedule left. The Bears could easily beat them if their offense is clicking, they already lost to the other two NFCE teams left on their schedule, and the Colts are a solid team.

Went for the Chiefs win as my upset pick. Not really that big of an upset as Chiefs usually play well at home. Unfortunately, too many little mistakes did them in. Even though Denver offense looked unstoppable, it was very commendable to limit them to kicking FGs most of the time.
Too bad they shot themselves in both feet on Special teams, and of course the offense was not very good as well.

I thought that my 10-5 score is poor, until I saw the spreadsheet and the fact that I'm very close to the top. Giants, Steelers, Ravens, Cardinals....whoever picked them to lose did great, luckily nobody had them combined...
I actually manage to make up ground to the Top 5, and to make some distance from the ones below me.

that sucks. i thouhg the win over seattle was a huge one.
seems like worth nothing, in this case. only if sf and seattle would both tie for wild card with dallas, that win would be a tie break win.
and looking at the remaining shedule for the nfc west, this will probably not happen.

i have a feeling about seattle surpass arizona, too
so dallas need to win theire own division, or hope for detroit to loose.

at least its save to say, we will not have 2 wildcards in the nfc west, again. that would be laughable
still possible, though :D

edit:
great. the linos have the easiest shedule of all possible playoff teams in the nfc.
only the last game vs greenbay is a tough one

dallas will end 10:6 and wont even make it into the playoffs

Saw this table and it surprised me.

All of Kansas City's WRs Demaryius Thomas
Receptions 91 87
First Downs 59 54
Yards 1065 1248
TDs 0, again, 0 10

Demayrius Thomas is having a bigger season than basically the entire KC passing offense put together.  How much of the Chief's offensive anemia is on their wide receivers and how much falls on Alex Smith's shoulders?

This is a terrible week for me...Pats and Chiefs let me down late

Welp, my predicting has been as poor as my Smash Bros playing as of late.

Whoever decided that ZSS's side special should lose all of its KOing power needs to jump off a cliff.

Anyway, hopefully not losing too much ground in standings this week.

Well started out good but the rest of my picks where pretty bad. Things are looking up for my Super Bowl pick since the Broncos still have a change to get home field advantage and even if they don't get it they could have three weapons at running back when the playoffs start.

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/st--louis-police-officers-want-rams-players-disciplined-for-ferguson-gesture-035909458.html

The St. Louis Police Officers Association is profoundly disappointed with the members of the St. Louis Rams football team who chose to ignore the mountains of evidence released from the St. Louis County Grand Jury this week and engage in a display that police officers around the nation found tasteless, offensive and inflammatory.

Five members of the Rams entered the field today exhibiting the "hands-up-don't-shoot" pose that has been adopted by protestors who accused Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson of murdering Michael Brown. The gesture has become synonymous with assertions that Michael Brown was innocent of any wrongdoing and attempting to surrender peacefully when Wilson, according to some now-discredited witnesses, gunned him down in cold blood.

SLPOA Business Manager Jeff Roorda said, "now that the evidence is in and Officer Wilson's account has been verified by physical and ballistic evidence as well as eye-witness testimony, which led the grand jury to conclude that no probable cause existed that Wilson engaged in any wrongdoing, it is unthinkable that hometown athletes would so publicly perpetuate a narrative that has been disproven over-and-over again."

ADDS SIGNIFICANCE OF THE RAISED ARMS -- Members of the St. Louis Rams raise their arms in awareness …

Roorda was incensed that the Rams and the NFL would tolerate such behavior and called it remarkably hypocritical. "All week long, the Rams and the NFL were on the phone with the St. Louis Police Department asking for assurances that the players and the fans would be kept safe from the violent protesters who had rioted, looted, and burned buildings in Ferguson. Our officers have been working 12 hour shifts for over a week, they had days off including Thanksgiving cancelled so that they could defend this community from those on the streets that perpetuate this myth that Michael Brown was executed by a brother police officer and then, as the players and their fans sit safely in their dome under the watchful protection of hundreds of St. Louis's finest, they take to the turf to call a now-exonerated officer a murderer, that is way out-of-bounds, to put it in football parlance," Roorda said.

The SLPOA is calling for the players involved to be disciplined and for the Rams and the NFL to deliver a very public apology. Roorda said he planned to speak to the NFL and the Rams to voice his organization's displeasure tomorrow. He also plans to reach out to other police organizations in St. Louis and around the country to enlist their input on what the appropriate response from law enforcement should be. Roorda warned, "I know that there are those that will say that these players are simply exercising their First Amendment rights. Well I've got news for people who think that way, cops have first amendment rights too, and we plan to exercise ours. I'd remind the NFL and their players that it is not the violent thugs burning down buildings that buy their advertiser's products. It's cops and the good people of St. Louis and other NFL towns that do. Somebody needs to throw a flag on this play. If it's not the NFL and the Rams, then it'll be cops and their supporters."

Welp, can't imagine why folks in the area would be upset with their police when they act like this!

Same here but things for the team that I picked to win the Super Bowl the Broncos are looking kinda good they still have a chance at home field and if not they could have three good options at running back once the playoffs start.  Also things for my NFC pick to make it to the Super Bowl also look pretty good since the Seahawks have a pretty good chance of still winning their divisions since the Cardinals are kinda falling apart.
