Dear vgchartz, could u please explain to everyone here, how come x1 sold 65000 last week, 57000 this week and yet their global total sales goes up 100k wek in week out. And that is something that has been going on for a long time now. Just like when x360 was nearly 2 million behind ps3 and suddenly came back magically at the same total  global hardware sales than Sony s console.wtf!
Since I spend my valuable time on your site, I think it would be only fair to me and everyone here to get an explanation.

The numbers in the graph on the front page are rounded.

..right in the kisser.

The global count on the home page is rounded to the nearest 0.1m. Last week the X1 was at 4.9m (4,904,595). It added 60k this week, so the total becomes 4.96m(4,962,369). The home page rounds that to 5m. If it sells another 60k next weeks the total will become 5.02m, so the home page should stay at 5m.

You also have to remember that VGC adjust their numbers pretty frequently. The sales figures they provide are estimates, so when more reliable data (such as NPD) is released, they adjust their numbers with the new data in mind. Large adjustments like what happened to the PS3/360 are rare. Most of us agree the PS3/360 figures are still off though, so we may get another adjustment up or down for either at some point.

Those two factors can make the home page figures seem like they are going up too quickly, magically going down, or sometimes barley moving at all.

Keep drug reference out of here!!

Only because have said that Wii U will sell more that PS4 in Japan?

No it won't, when more Japan games come it will easily outsell the wii-u. Big games liek MGS, REsi Evil FF, Kingsom hearts, and more to come will move ps4's. There will be more announced as well like ni no kuni 2, and others.

MGS, RE, FF, etc.. are dying franchises in Japan.. They won't help the PS4 THAT much! Dragon Quest XI or Monster Hunter 5 are games that could actually help the system!

They are less popular but they still big

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

I will cut FF some slack since the PS3 version of FFXIII almost reached 2 million, but RE5 struggled to reach 1 million and MGS4 only did slightly below 900k! I guess time will tell if they will really give the PS4 a worthwhile boost in Japan..

There is no MGS over 1 millions sales in Japan,RE fall a lot but a game a litle less then one millions in Japan is still something big.

I'm just responding to someone else's post. People recently have been talking about PS4 dominance. It is dominating the marketplace so much so that people are now comparing the Xbox One sales PLUS the Wii U sales to the PS4 sales. This topic has led a lot of people to a lot of confusion. All I'm saying is this. Ex: Let's say the PS4 has sold 9 units so far, while the Wii U has sold 6 units and the Xbox one has sold 5 units.

PS4: 9, Wii U: 6, Xbox One: 5

Then, next week (or next month, or next year, whatever you want to say, it's just an example) the PS4 sells 7 units, the Wii U sells 4 units, and the Xbox One also sells 4 units. Now...

PS4: 16, Wii U: 10, Xbox One: 9

So in that timeframe, the Wii U PLUS the Xbox One outsold the PS4. Now it gets tricky, so listen real good (Sandslash, Hitmonlee, Psyduck, Arcanine...O.K., I'll stop). Before we tacked on the 7 - 4 - 4, the Wii U and Xbox One combined had a lead of 2 units over the PS4 and the PS4 had a 45% marketshare. Now, after adding the next round of sales in (the 7 - 4 - 4), the Wii U PLUS the Xbox One has a lead of 3 units over the PS4 but the PS4's marketshare went up to 45.71%. So did the gap widen or narrow? You tell me. The gap between the combined Wii U and Xbox One units sold vs. the PS4 units sold widened in favor of the Wii U/Xbox One. It widened by 1 unit. But the gap between the combined Wii U and Xbox One marketshare vs. the PS4 marketshare narrowed. It went from a 10% gap to an 8.57% gap. So did the gap widen or narrow? How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? Why does Fred from Scooby-Doo where an ascot?

These are questions we will never know the answer to.

O I get the math, I just don't get the logic in combining the Wii U and X1 sales when each console compete in their own right.

BTW there is a much more simple way to do the sums. Say if the PS4 had 42% market share and the following week it had more than 42% of the sales, its market share would go up. If it has less that 42% of the sales,  its market share would go down. So if the following week the PS4s market share went down to, let's say, 40%, it would have to have more than 40% of the sales for it to gain market share etc. So yes you make a good points but when you hold a lower percentages like 30% (Wii U) and 22% (X1) you only have to sell more than you current market share for it to go up. Which means that the PS4 could sell more than double of the X1 and the X1 could still gain market share.

PS4 is currently selling around 50% of the market according to VGC so its market will keep rising to around 50% unless sale percentages change.

Please keep the quote tree trimmed so we can have a healthy Cone...
About the grades analogy it is broken. If in my class I get a 10 and my two rivals have 6 and 5 they were better than me combined because the sum is 11? Domination doesn't mean more than 50% unless Both adversaries join forces. Because 50-25-25 marketshare will gave ps4 a lot of leverage for 3rd parties than a half install base console or a no 3rd party support console even if we lump them together to say it is 50-50. So this argument is silly in all levels that aren't just to downplay ps4.

Just saying, right now I'm playing Destiny BETA, Watch_Dogs (superior console version) on PS4. So it's time to stop the butthurt thing and accept the King...
