Dear vgchartz, could u please explain to everyone here, how come x1 sold 65000 last week, 57000 this week and yet their global total sales goes up 100k wek in week out. And that is something that has been going on for a long time now. Just like when x360 was nearly 2 million behind ps3 and suddenly came back magically at the same total  global hardware sales than Sony s console.wtf!
Since I spend my valuable time on your site, I think it would be only fair to me and everyone here to get an explanation.

The global count on the home page is rounded to the nearest 0.1m. Last week the X1 was at 4.9m (4,904,595). It added 60k this week, so the total becomes 4.96m(4,962,369). The home page rounds that to 5m. If it sells another 60k next weeks the total will become 5.02m, so the home page should stay at 5m.

You also have to remember that VGC adjust their numbers pretty frequently. The sales figures they provide are estimates, so when more reliable data (such as NPD) is released, they adjust their numbers with the new data in mind. Large adjustments like what happened to the PS3/360 are rare. Most of us agree the PS3/360 figures are still off though, so we may get another adjustment up or down for either at some point.

Those two factors can make the home page figures seem like they are going up too quickly, magically going down, or sometimes barley moving at all.
