Look how close the two are getting! I see the 3DS passing it up soon. 3DS is a sure seller this holiday and games like Smash Bros and Pokemon OR/AS are gonna do nothing but help catapult it ahead of PS4 this year.

 

Prediction (made early 2014): 3DS outsells PS4 in 2014

Prediction (made PS4 launch holiday): 3DS will have higher LT sales than PS4

Why are we comparing handheld sales to console sales?

I would think that both platforms cater to very very different types of gamers and/or usage scenarios.

Eh, I think ps4 will stay ahead, it has its own heavy hitters hitting soon, and as the new kid on the block, it will enjoy a very healthy holiday season as well.

Still the 3ds is like a fourth the price, so it is possible that it could pass the ps4, but Im still betting on the ps4!

Because 3DS and PS4 are the two big boys of the market right now in sales. Everything else is a joke. Not hating on XB1,WiiU,Vita, or last gens consoles but cmon they're all doing pathetic compared to them.

Because a 3DS to Vita sales topic would be like making fun of a disabled kid, just kind of mean.

Lol ok I get you guys. I give. So my prediction.

The PS4 could sell more simply cause this is its first real holiday year. There are a lot of kids that asked for a 3DS last year or the year before that will be asking for a PS4 this year.

Why not? PS4 & 3DS are completely dominating there direct competitors, both have over 50% marketshare so far this year and have sold a similar amount thus far in 2014. Its a way more interesting battle than 3DS vs Vita or PS4 vs Wii U/Xone. Also since they are both dedicated gaming devices they are up for comparison despite one being on a tv and the other being portable.

on a different note, it worries me that pretty much every console (PS4 is probably the only exception) seems to be on track to doing worse than their predeccessor.
