Why are people even bringing the PS3 into this, that happened 7 years ago guys, it's irrelevent now. Sony was desperate them, MS is desperate now. Stop living in the past

I don't like motion gaming, so backward compatibility is a bigger deal for me. But i get that it doesn't have the same value, at least in terms of value.

I would have loved a ps3 with ps2 compatibility =(

Yeah, clearly that's completely different than the original article you posted. 50% didn't own a PS3 is not the same as "Xbox owners deserting Microsoft consoles for PS4."

So comon sense tells you they never even had a console and are new to gaming, right?

This article omitted some data. Sorry I can't link the original numbers, I'm on the phone, but it was said that 31% of PS4 owners were X360/Wii users, and 17% never owned any last-gen consoles.

It is relevant now because it shows that a console can struggle for 1-2 years and have people digging its grave and completely turn things around. We're even seeing the WiiU coming around after almost 2 years. It's one thing if you're something totally new to the market like Ouya, but the WiiU and Xbox One come from very successful predecessors, as did the PS3.

PS4 will likely "win" this generation, but that doesn't mean the Xbox One is a failure. Who won the last gen? Honestly at this point, I don't even know, but has it mattered?

Looking at the past is a great way to see our trial and error process, to gauge the events of yesterday and apply them today to estimate what will come in the future.

But yes, you are a prime example that Playstation Historians, with all their PHD's and tenure, actually seek to destory all historic documents of times when PS consoles were not winning :P
