Forums - Nintendo Discussion - So Mario Kart 8 Isn't Going To Give The Wii U Even 1 Month At 100k+ In The US?

The impact was great, in terms of Wii U numbers. It's not going to get fantastic sales like that in its lifetime, with maybe the exception of Smash.

Don't know about anyone else but there are still a number of games I want coming out in the future. Personally I don't have any reason to even move on to any other current gen console yet, much less the next Nintendo one.

And, I predict 100K NPD for June. Perhaps just about 100K flat.

Jesus guys this gen of consoles has like another 5 - 7 yrs left stop saying things have failed its getting boring now. Yes xone and wii u aint selling great right now anything could happen in the next short  years. Chill.

XOne maybe can turn it around, but the Wii U already has spent Mario 3D World, Mario Kart 8, DKC, NSMBU, Wii Sports, Wii Fit, Wii Play, Nintendo Land, Pikmin, etc. There's just not many bullets left in the gun as it were, maybe a miracle can happen though like Splatoon becomes the next huge blockbuster gaming franchise like a Minecraft or something.

But at this stage it's kinda like a guy who's been working out for 3 months and can still only manage like 3 push-ups thinking he's going to win a strong man competetion. The Wii U doesn't look like it's going to have 100k+ month in North America until November ... though maybe they can eek it out for June because it's 5 weeks instead of 4.

Yeah i agree to some extent but you forget one thing. Pokemon. If nintendo release a 3d Wii u pokemon it could be huge and who knows waht games they got for late 15 and 16. Galaxy three maybe?  It may carve a good market for a second console. Also sonic boom if the cartoon takes off with kids could move systems. Xbox one i aint to sure about halo gone down hill dead rising flopped forza didnt sell that well titanfall sales slowed down so i dont know

Most underrated/overlooked console ever confirmed...

Dreamcast was a much better system. :)

If you love arcade games then probably.

And I'd say Dreamcast is less overlooked.
Though personally I have to disagree about it being a better system, as long as the coming titles Nintendo has promised have the expected quality. (:

They need to drop the tablet and cut the price as soon as possible. And create a Wii-U Sports HD bundle targeted at mass market Wii owners and Girls.

It takes some time and effort to make existing games and software capable of running without the oversized tablet but it is well worth the effort if the system can receive a 100$ price cut. Nintendo needs to act now, even if it is almost too late. A mass-market Wii-U Sports HD Bundle should have been there from day 1 instad of Nintendoland and the tablet should have been much lighter and smaller, so it is time to redesign or drop it.

Thank god you're not running the company then.

Because it's not a tablet. Go look up a pic of an iPad. THAT is a tablet.

And while the initial sales boost from MK8 wasn't as big immediately as some thought (or hoped), the game will have major legs, and it will also help with a prolonged boost in system sales over time. They need to continue advertising it more, and get more copies of that MK bundle out into the wild. But this "doom" talk is still fairly ridiculous.

Mario Kart 8 is arcadey as hell as is Smash Brothers and most of Nintendo's games are arcadey except a few.

Lets be real, Sonic hasn't been a system seller in like 20 years. So that's out.

It's summer, video games' slowest time of the year.

Then lets compare to the GameCube during it's exact same point in its lifecycle (summer 2003):

June 03 - 124k

July 03 - 126k

August 03 - 100k

September 03 - 165k

The sad thing is I'm not sure the *3DS* can even match some of these numbers this summer, let alone the Wii U.

Gamecube was like 99 bucks thats pocketmoney for most working people. You just bought it on a whim it was soo cheap. It still sold fairly bad though but made a profit (unlike xbox and ps).
