Forums - Gaming Discussion - My perspective of the four fanboys of videogaming.

This is a perspective of fanboys from the four current big groups.  Sorry Ouya and iOS fans.  You really don't matter.

PC fans.  While there are  those that do have the PC that can run games at max settings, the PC fanboys are elitists even if they don't have the rig to back it up and I feel they talk down the consoles even more because they're losing exclusives by the minute because the initial increase in power of consoles like the Xbox, 360, and PS3.

Nintendo fans.  First party games are a lot of the time great games, no denying that, but Nintendo fans put every Nintendo first party title on a pedestal regardless of quality.  Did a new game just get announced?  They'll hype it up to no end when seeing nothing more but a five second scene or maybe even a logo.  When Nintendo announces a new character on a video game, it's almost as big as Nintendo announcing a game, and you'll see endless hype for those characters until they actually see new games created for them.  The fanbase is pretty blind to third party titles as they can't be as good as first party in their eyes, even when exclusive on their own systems some of the time.  Unlike Sony fans, Nintendo fans are actually critical of how the company is being ran.

Sony fans.  The complete opposite of Nintendo fans.  While they will shower endless praise on certain first party titles or series, you'll have no problem finding that same Sony fan showing disgust towards many other first party titles.  There's the rare super fan that thinks every first party Sony title is good.  Most Sony fans are apologetic towards any bad decisions the company makes.  The Vita has been out for over two years with less than 25 exclusives, a lot of games that are ported, especially when they're funded by Sony, has near unplayable framerate issues, the PS4 has four retail exclusives from launch in 2013 all the way to 2015.  Regardless what you say about the companies mismanagement of the product, the Sony fan will be there to protect it.

Microsoft fans.  This fanbase is actually the most varied but they seem to be more about defending their console now more than anything.  You've got your super fans, backpedallers who stated they wanted the best version of games which is why they go with the 360 but now they're with the Xbox One instead of PS4, and then you've got the people  that like the Xbox consoles the most, but prefer other games.

All this is based on my experience with the more hardcore internet fanbase rather than the casual types for each console.  Just a generalization of how I see the fanbases.  So this is my opinion before I get a post saying "in your opinion" like many people feel obligated to do.

Doesn't this make this thread against the forum rules by default?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Interesting observations. I agree with all of them, especially the way Sony and Nintendo fans act.

You PC fanboy description is wrong, but everything else is pretty solid.

PC owners get annoyed that they splash out a mountain of cash (which many don't have a problem with spending) on a super powerful PC....only for games to require a fraction of the power on offer due to being capped for the consoles. The "loss of exclusives" has nothing to do with the issue (and personally I don't think even exists). What pisses them all off is that they have a platform that is essentially able of running 9th gen games and deliver new gaming experiences....only to be stuck with the same generic rehash of a game from 7 years ago due to consoles.

If the majority didn't conform then there wouldn't be a generalization.

I agree with all of these observations.

I agree without a lot of what OP said but I think MS fanboys think all MS exclusives are better than anything out there (without playing anything else out there), place Live on pedestal and mistakenly think online gaming is worse everywhere else.

Thats...quite fair. It's doesn't seem like you're taking a shot at any single fanbase.

In my experience the single (not only, just thing hey are worst for) most annoying thing about each groups "worst" fanboys are:

PC: Elitism. Jesus fuck it's terrible. I have been primarily a PC gamer for several years now but i still have an overwhelming urge to punch them in the face.

Nintendo: Completely blind to the quality of Nintendo's own games. They will praise games as the technical, graphical, gameplay, artistic and content pinnacles of gaming regardless to the quality of the actual title.

Sony: Completely blind to the fuck ups of Sony themselves. These people wouldn't notice if Sony turned up and their front door and stole their kidneys. They'd probably congratulate them for the good business choice.

Microsoft: PC + Sony. Blind to MS's own fuck ups and built in with one hell of a superiority complex. Mention PS4 > X1 hardware? Prepare to be murdered. Mention XBL > PSN? You're their best friend. I personally believe MS fans are, on average, slightly better than the other 3, but their worst are THE worst.

These are just how things have been for me over the years, i'm sure others have had different experiences. Fortunately VGC doesn't have many examples of the above three, since they tend to get banned pretty quickly (then make 30 alts).

I think that MS fans are more pissed off at MS than anything.Gen8 was the opportunity to put away Sony for good considering the 360/PS3 are tied globaly in hardware but the 360 has sold something like 64 million more games putting it in a sold 2nd place GEN7 (and btw MS was in 2nd GEN6 also)

But, here we are GEN8 and MS had really bungled their launch by many stupid decsions that we all know what they are, no need to rehash. Yes, they have fixed all the bad mistakes and that is good but they are sitting in 3rd place with a console a bit less powerful and wondering WTF was MS thinking??
