Forums - Sales Discussion - Reasons for the Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for PS4 out selling 95% of the Wii U library

Trying to compile a list of reasons The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt for the PS4 will outell the majority of the Wii U library.  CD Projekt Red Studio, for all intended purposes, is a very small studio.  Their budget for game releses cant be that big, let alone money set aside for advertising and other things needed to push games.  They only have 2 games released so far, one exclusive to PC, no Sony presence.  For Witcher 3, advertisting wise, there has only been a couple youtube videos and a game delay.  The videos were enough to encourage me to pick up the game day one...as well as others I am sure.  I have to question what the company is doing right that Nintendo has failed to do with games like W101 and Lego City Undercover.

I thought that this thread is worthless and I hope that I am the only one who is stupid enough to post something here ;)

because the game is launching on ps4.

it's a simple strategy but i'll bet nintendo would find a lot of success following suit.

I can see it outselling most of the third party games but not most of the first parties... I always thought of the Witcher franchise as a PC franchise rather than a console franchise... So although it will probably out sell most wiiU third parties, I highly doubt the ps4 version alone will outsell most of the first party. I will be picking up witcher 3 and whether or not I will have a ps4 by that time, it will be for PC

But we will see, lots of third party games do sell well on the ps4 so maybe

Its launchiing on a pretty hot system true, but there is no exclusivity.  Also the release date puts it with some other heavy hitters.  Just wondering how a small company like this is able to pierce through all that and have a sales winner (my assumption of course).  For Lego City and W101, they had the same type of pre-release prep, had console exclusivity, had no real competetion they still did poorly.

At first, I thought this was saying it would outsell 95% of the Wii U's library combined. But let me ask, what is the point of this thread? It's one thing to analyze what may contribute to the sales of a game, and another to make this weird comparison.

I have no idea what I've just read. And why it matters to OP if Witcher 3 will or will not outsell majority of WiiU library.

I do however know that Witcher 3 team is 200 strong, that the development costs $15+ millions, and that marketing is $25 millions.

The Witcher is a critically acclaimed RPG franchise with multiple games across multiple platforms and a lot of hype behind it from mainstream audiences.

Lego City Undercover was essentially a spin off of the lego franchise. It is essentially a kid's GTA which doesn't really appeal to many older gamers. Despite that it has sold over 0.75mil copies on Wii U and over 1mil on 3DS and it should cross 2mil sales lifetime.

Wonderful 101 is an extremely niche new IP in a non established genre, with little advertisement and on a struggling console.

I'm not really sure what you are trying to accomplish with this thread. The Witcher 3 has every reason to outsell those other games...

For Nintendo, they've obviously done something right with Mario Kart 8.  Based on E3 reactions, they may be on to something with Hyrule Warriors, Bayo 2, Splatoon, Yarn Yoshi, Mario Maker among other things. Their stance on indie games is bringing in fresh new favorites like Shovel Knight and promising releases like Oddworld, Areal, and Earthlockon the horizon.

Not mention, the Wii U is beating the Xbox One, even after the price cut.

We are living in 2014 -- evidently you're stuck somewhere in 2012 or 2013.

I predict NX launches in 2017 - not 2016

Oh, so you expect Witcher 3 PS4 to sell at least as much as like the ~40th best selling WiiU title?
Pretty bold, I must say.
