Forums - Sony Discussion - The Order is visually engrossing, but uninspiring once you start playing - MMGN

There's no MP at all?

From what I have seen of it so far, I would say that it will be a fairly "good" game, but it's lack of depth and new gameplay mechanics will keep it from being a "Great" game.

I think it will probabally do better than Ryse critically and just from a pure gameplay aspect.  Part of the Problem with Ryse is that it was a launch game, and so they didn't really have time to polish it, and make a more diverse combat system.  RoD has that time, and because of that I think this will end up a better game than Ryse, despite shereing many similarities in it's "Cinamatic" approach to gameplay.

People really love to exagerate about how terrible QTEs are don't they haha, as if they're objectively bad in every game... I think they look well implemented in The Order 1886 and apparently they'll be used pretty sparsely throughout the game.

Also people love Gears of War, The Last of Us and Uncharted etc, they're all linear cinemative experiences, obviously TO:1886 is going for that same massive audience.

I doubt the game will be any less than 10 hours long, by the time it's released it will have just over 4 years in development, I'm expecting a similar length to TLoU (15+ hours). Sure some sort of multplayer would be good but if it is 15+ hours that's enough single player content to satisfy me, especially if the replay values good.

I'm still excited by this game, RaD are a great studio and this game looks like a labour of love & passion, hopefully it turns out amazing.

I was very hyped about The Order until they revealed the gameplay. It really is 2015 Ryse.

Still too early to call. The game is still quite far away from release and there are also Pax Prime, Gamescom, and TGS. I will admit so far, RAD hasn't done much to appease many people's doubts on this game.

Just like Ryse the game is pretty much what you see. I thought it would be Sonys take on the "Gears" formula or some kind of third person view Left for Dead with monsters. But is just some corridor shooter.

RAD did say there are more open areas and alternative outcomes, so no, what we have seen thus far is likely not representative of the final product. Also, Ryse also suffered from severe framerate drops and an atrocious story. From the E3 build, the framerate is stable and the story is already more interesting than that of Ryse. The fact that the half-breeds are not mindless creatures, but rather beasts with human intellect is cool enough. You really need to take a few steps back before making such hasty conclusions.

They've said from the very beginning that the game is designed to be a cinematic experience. If you buy the game expecting it to be something else, you've got only yourself to blame. It's basically Walking Dead / Wolf Among Us except with much prettier graphics and a little more freedom in the gameplay.

I really don't care much about story in videogames, all gameplay shown has been very formulaic and "cinematic". Who knows maybe is diferent but so far is not looking good.

I'll start paying attention to criticisms once critics have played more than the 10 minute tech demo, for which the only purpose was to show that there is a playable product and that gamely visuals are awesomeness.

Mission accomplished by RAD as far as I'm concerned.

I thought we already knew all of this? The game looks beautiful but it has never looked particularly innovative or free-thinking!

You never really know how gripping this game is. Its atmosphere and enemies as well as its secondary fire might make you love it even more than Gears or Uncharted.

Maybe. But that only works if they show me something that makes me buy it. And that's the point, if you don't show anything new.... Why give it a chance over a proven winner? Not gonna spend $60 on something that doesn't look like it's anything special. Presentations usually show the cool new features... which means when they show same ole... it's a bad sign.

6th gen was mainly JRPGs
7th gen was mainly shooters
8th gen PLEASE DONT BE SHOOTERS!
The shooter genre needs to slow down.

I never had much interest in The Order but sad to see people are already expecting the worst from it.
