That's exactly why they don't charge to play online right?

Why on earth are you expecting a game released more than 6 years ago to have online multiplayer still..? I think you may have gone more than a little insane ;oP

When do they nickle & dime people? They're the kings of it as you say so provide multiple examples.

Also the online portion of this and every other Wii & DS game was hosted by GameSpy servers, which were bought and shut down by the company that purchased GameSpy, this wasn't necessarily a Nintendo decision.

The only thing I can think of is their excessive controller options (mainly with the Wii when you had the Wiimote, nunchuck and then they came out with the Motion+ add on (which they eventually put inside the controller)).  Most games didn't require motion+ so it wasn't 100% necessary.  I spent a lot of money on Wii controllers but at least I can use them on the Wii U still.

As for nickle and diming online...  The other two companies do that.

Controllers I can understand. I haven't felt that way towards their DLC packs yet though or other online-related stuff yet, EA is probably one of the worst offenders in that regard.

Sorry, does suck, but I have mk8 and I'm alright with it. But to be fair, you did pay for the game and console once and they weren't seeing any residual money afterwards from online. If you want to blame them for cutting online services or not moving to a new online service after gamespy go ahead. If you want to play mario kart online and you don't have the console and game, that's on you.

It has been 6 years on a dedicated server. In comparison I'd like to mention a game like League of Legends which is now a global force in the MOBA genre. The game is solely dependent on online and has a major following, but in reality that game is just a year younger than MK wii. Certainly LOL isn't shutting down their servers anytime soon, but that's because they make money that way. Nintendo who just released their new MK8 and not seeing residuals for its online, yet, has no reason to keep the wii version up.

Wow your really late, Nintendo gave a forewarning that they were taking down the wifi connection months ago.
