Delays don't even matter when consumers still get half-finished games and day 1 patches.

Talk about hyperbole? Half finished? What games are HALF FINISHED? Every game could always use a patch, software can always be improved, that is hardly proof games are hafl finished.

Games have gotten incredilbly complex, with hundreds of engineers working on them for years, to expect every game to not have bugs is dilusion.

You said it yourself. Hyperbole. Don't get so worked up over it.

That being said, with the emphasis on DLC these days, they might as well be half-finished.

Xbox One - PS4 - Wii U - PC

Delay can be good for games.

If the games is delayed for the purpose of making it better and add things

Then is should be delayed.

It's definitely better situation then a game which still need some work done

And comes out when it's not finished.

Clearly some games don't even benefit from a delay, watchdogs comes to mind.
Some get delayed to the point where the entire gen goes by and the game don't even see release (Agent, TLG) .

I dont get how people defend this shit, and i really don't get the reason for delaying when the same game gets released with a shit ton of bugs anyway.

Some delays don't have anything to with development issues or wanting to make the game better. Sometimes they are strategic, for example Ubisoft and Watchdogs on the Wii U. They moved it because they didn't want to try to compete with Mario Kart. It would made have whatever sales that game gets eventually on Wii U a hell of a lot worse if they had released it around the same time as Mario Kart.

Most of the time when a game is delayed it's good.

It's to make the game better.

That's the main reason to delay a game.

And if a game is delayed and eventually

You get a much better game then it's worth the wait.

Disclaimer: This is not a rant against delays. I'm not saying delays do not help to finish the product. It's a rant against people claiming that a delay is a good move and that the game is better off with it. It's not a good move, it's their god damn duty to delay a game if it's not in a playable state.

I'm sick and tired of this narrative.

People claiming that companies are so smart to delay a game because they have more time to fix it. Well I call bullshit. Games aren't delayed because the developers want to make it perfect, they are delayed because they cannnot even be released in the state that they're in. It's not about making the games perfect, it's about making them actually playable.

Point 1: How would you know what things they are "fixing" during the extended time period? How would you know that it's for the good of the game. For all we know they could use that time to perfect their DRM or closing more marketing deals.

Point 2: A lot of games get delayed without us even knowing it. Are the games better because of it? No one is making that claim. Is a game that is released "on time" less perfect because they should've taken more time? No, because we don't know what happened during production. People will always say that they should've taken more time to polish a game but that's not how it works. They're only trying to make it as playable as possible.

Point 3: Longer development time does not mean higher quality experience.

Point 4: Look at all the games that have been released. Any of them close to perfect? How about those games that were delayed because they wanted to make them better? Any difference to games that release on time? The answer is no.

At the end of the day it comes down to this: There are 2 reasons for a product to be delayed. Someone sucks at project management or someone sucks at producing the product. Take your pick. But just don't expect games to be better because of delays.

So just please don't give companies credit for sucking at their job.

is it the end of the world if you can't play your game for few months? would you die from it being delay? imo,, delay is a gd thing. to be delayed,, they could be tonne of reason. they are all not necessarily about it being in a buggy state. some do get delayed because of the competition they face . for example it would be pointless to release a new IP when COD and halo are being released the same time lol.

?? Please explain how you know no improvements were not made since it was delayed? Didi you work on the project? AND LOL at thinking delays means no buigs, it is impossible to make complex games today and not have a single bug, please post one game that never had a single bug the last 10 years,
