Forums - Gaming Discussion - So Mario Kart 8 isn't going to help boost sales of the Wii U huh?

MK8 will certainly boost Wii U sales, but it won't save the damn console like some people believe it will!

Not saying it's impossible, but saying there is no chance of it not boosting the WiiU by 300%+ seems a bit silly to me. Still, you're free to believe whatever you like ^^

Increasing sales by 70k is not silly when they are currently at 30k. To believe otherwise is just foolish at best. If sales were 100-200k then 300% would not be reasonable. Let's change systems for a moment. If Halo 5 were to release tomorrow, do you not think that Xbox would be well over 200K for that week? Mario Kart 8 is that type of game. It would not be unreasonable to see sales increase by 5X for that week.

Again, I never said it wouldn't happen. I'm simply saying it's silly to say such a thing as fact. There is nothing wrong with people having healthy scepticism, even if something seems obvious.

Heck, people pretty much universally disagreed with the guy that predicted the WiiU would sell under 40m in its lifetime. Many said there was absolutely no chance of that happening. One guy even said he expected 20m sold by the end of 2013.

Look at us now ^^;

Where have you been all this time? From what I remember mk8 is the ultimate saviour of the wii u

Nobody in their right mind thinks MK8 won't move hardware.

It will move hardware, but not a ressurgence. Not even close. The console won't see 100K per week, not even on launch week.

So let me get this straight. You actually believe that MK8 wont help move 100K Wii U's for it's launch week? Are you being serious?

You don't have to agree with him, but it's not an outrageous prediction. That would be over a 300% increase from it's current numbers ^^;

OT: No one is saying it won't boost the WiiU's sales, but it's wishful thinking to believe a single game, or even 2, are going to suddenly "save" the WiiU.

Honestily?

I think 210,000...

Yes, for me at 2 week before MK8(17 May) Wii U sold 40,000, more of 30,000 of now...

On 1 week before MK8(24 May) Wii U will sold 70,000 (+75%) because the 20 May close the server on Wii of MK6.

And the week of MK8(31 May) Wii U will sold 210,000 (+200%).

This is my opinion.

The OP's point is kind of a silly one because the bundle he's talking about is only sold at the Nintendo Store in NYC and is available in extremely limited quantities (it comes with a Blue Shell figurine). They probably only have a couple of hundred to sell total. So that selling out means nothing, that's not the normal Mario Kart 8 Wii U bundle.

And of course MK8 will cause a bump in Wii U sales, the bigger question is by how much, and perhaps more importantly for how long? If the system sinks back to sub-50k WW numbers by August, that's not great.

Of course it's going to move hardware, people are saying it's not going to save the WiiU.

1) It'll probably help for a few weeks and then die out.
2) Amazon charts change all the time so I wouldn't use it as a predicament for future sales (this goes either way).
3) The only way that Nintendo is going to have consistent healthy numbers with the Wii U is by changing up people's current perception of them as a company.

No it still costs to much for what it is. Smash Bros isn't nearly as big of a game as Mario Kart either. I don't know why people (OP included) think Smash will push a console. Maybe in Japan it might push some WiiUs.

Edit: After reading this article it seems a huge Nintendo fanboy wrote it. Who actually believes this?

Are you kidding me? In Tesco (UK) they offer this bundle with promo code for £199. Considering that you get two games worth around £40 each, the system itself cost £120! That's 3x less than XBONE! So how much less it supposed to cost in your opinion?
