So, I've been frequenting these forums for a few years now.  If you don't know me it is because I mostly lurk.  Anyway, durring my time here I have had quite a few games recommended to me that I have gone ahead and purchased.  So I thought it would be fun (or at least interesting?)  to let you guys know what I ended up thinking about these games.  It's pretty much just RPG's, because those are the games that I generally look for recomendations on.  Shooters and adventure games I can pretty much tell if I will like them from gameplay videos.  

1. Valkyria Chronicles.  

Valkyria Chronicles was talked about non stop when I first joined.  I tried to dismiss it as it really didn't look that appealing to me, and I am a big fan of SRPG's (mostly durring the early consoles).  I eventually decided I should play it, and after a slow start, I fell in love with it.  The game is beautiful and the story is captivating.  The gameplay was a lot more fun then it looked.  One of the best games for the ps3, definitely.  Didn't like the second one very much though...

I'd give this game an A-

2.  Tales of Vesperia

This one was also pretty big when I first joined.  I bought it before Valkyria Chronicles, but I actually didn't play it until after.  The game is certainly beautfiul with the anime/cel shading style that the tales games are known for.  I did enjoy this game, but not as much as some people on here did.  There were certainly better RPG's available at the time.

Ah, Ni No Kuni.  I hated it.  Plain and simple.  If it weren't for another game on this list, I would say it was the worst RPG I have played.  Too many annoying characters and crappy story.  I can usually tolerate that stuff in the JRPG's I play, but this was too much.  Gameplay was technically fine.  Graphics were great.  However, story is what I care about most in an RPG and to me, this game was not good.  Sadly, like two weeks after I paid full price for this game, they came out with a greatest hits version for half the price too...

I'd give it a D

4.  Fire Emblem: Awakening

Now, like I said, I like SRPG's, but I haven't really enjoyed them as much as I did for early consoles.  I played one of the fire emblems on the game advance and I liked it ok, but not enough to really invest in the series.  Anyway, when this game came out everybody was so excited about it and I had been kind of looking for an excuse to get a 3ds, so you guys kind convinced me to get the 3ds as well when I got this.  Anyway, I really liked it.  It definitely had a lot more features than previous fire emblems games and I loved how you could turn off permanent death.  Permanent death is a terrible feature for and SRPG, especially one that requires building relationships.  Story was pretty good too.  

I'd give this game a B+

5. Persona 4

Ah, Persona 4.  I heard so many good things about this series, but never bothered with it.  Why?  The freaking numbers, thats why.  I hate how for some reason RPG's like to add numbers to their games, even though they aren't connected.  Final Fantasy, Elder Scrolls, Breath of Fire, etc.  To me, the numbers mean I need to play from the first game on in order to know what is going on.  Anyway, I eventually got around to asking if these games were connected and if I needed to play the older ones to understand what was going on.  When I finally got the game, I seriously marathoned it for like 4 days.  It just gripped me.  Everything about it was awesome (except maybe Teddie, he annoyed me).  I also got 3 because I enjoyed this game so much, and I liked it too, but not as much as thise one.  

I'd give this game an A+ 

6. Bravely Default

Ugh, Bravely Default... People in Europe were talking this game up in months leading up to its release here in the states.  I liked the idea of a good, traditional JRPG on my 3ds, so I bought some eshop cards  that were on sale so I could buy it digitally when it came out...big mistake.  Not because the digital version was bad, but because now I couldn't take it back or trade it in...The gameplay was good, I guess, if extremely easy.  However, the characters and the story are probably the worst my eyes have witnessed.  Every character annoyed me.  Every part of the story was dumb.  I did not like it at all.  The streetpass stuff was cool, until I had maxed out everything by like the fourth day.  Then it was worthless.  The gameplay gave me a reason to play through the game, but everything that happened in the game's story just made me madder and hate the game more.  

I'd give this game an F- (seriously hated it, worst RPG I have ever played)

So basically, you guys have helped me find some real gems like Valkyria Chronicles and Persona 4.  However, you have also recommended some real stinkers (at least to me) in Ni No Kuni and Bravely Default.  So overall your recommendations have been rather mixed.  

How about you guys?  you ever bought a game that has been recommended to you on this site?  If so, what did you think of it?  

If story is the most important part for you in RPGs then I'm not surprised you disliked a couple of these games. I find story to almost always be the weakest part of JRPGs, the only recent exception being Persona 4.

Well, the only game I ever bought that was recommended from this site was W101 and I like it a lot! I would give it a B but thats about it so far loll. Usually, I would either try the game first or play the demo and etc before I buy the game even if my friends recommend it cause we all have different tastes although most of the people on this site that recommend people stuff seem to have similar tastes as mine so maybe more in the future

Resident evil 4 for the wii, can't remember who recommended it but it really convinced me on the motion controls back then

Valkyria Chronicles.- I love this game ne of my fav of the 7th gen

Tales of Vesperia.- mmmm i'd say is ok, i like Xilia a little more

Ni no Kuni.- ok leaning to meh for me

Fire Emblem.- Good almost great

Person 4 Golden.- still playing it, so far is kinda boring for me

Bravery Default.- The new Final Fantasy.... jajajaja what a great laught, if anything is a NES-ike final fantasy, i really hate this game, that custom random encounter system, plus custom difficulty is really broken

Anyway, my recomendation would be Nier but be warned, the gameplay is just there (meaning is mediocre at best), the graphics are shit and the sidequest are boring as hell (at least you can skip this part). Music is soooooooooooo great, the story mmm, i dont know if is just too great or too retarted (ejje thats up to you to decide) but at least i can say is memorable and there is a lot of bittersweet moments ;_;

I'm still playing Bravely Default, and although I feel it was definitely overrated (I'd give it a B-) I don't know where you got easy from. I'm playing on hard difficulty and not using abilink and the game is tough as nails (unless you grind forever).

yeah, story can be pretty weak in a lot of JRPG's, especially lately.  Thats why I have tended to gravitate more towards WRPG's in recent years.  Bioware is easily my favorite developer.  There have been some good JRPG's in recent years though like xenoblade and the last story.  

Ni No Kuni, Valkyria Chronicles, Person 4 Golden. I like these games a lot.

tons and tons of hours and content to play through.
