What a waste of resources... So port an old game that rarely anyonenin Japan will buy it and 1/10 of Japan owns a 3DS and we all know how stingy are martphone/tablet owners... Most of them are willing to pay 5$ and rarely 15$... Monster Hunter Tri Ultimate and 4 look better also you can emulate PlayStation 2, PlayStation Portable ajd Wii to play Monster Hunter games in case are being stingy or something of if you already own the game...

How much is Capcom selling this game? 0.99? 1.99? 4.99? 14.99???

They will be lucky if they sell 100K as Monster Hunter fans are on 3DS with newest and the best MH games on the system... Also rarely anyone owns a controler for their smartphone... So 20-40$ to spend...

~ 16 bucks
Dragon Quest 8 on iOS is 28 dollars (released December) but is still in the daily top 50 of paid apps in Japan..
the last month released Dragon Quest 4 is 17 dollars and is in the daily top 20 of paid apps in Japan

Japan spends as much money on smartphone games as on the total console market (software + yes, hardware)
its 50% of the total Japanese game market

Looks like it debuted in Japan for the day as:

the nr 1 top paid app for iphone
the nr 2 top paid app for ipad

the nr 23 top grossing app for iphone
the nr 4 top grossing app for iphone

Since its a surprise release I can see it hanging on for a few days and if the Wifi Multiplayer is working good even a bit longer

The trend developing is that premium mobile games will window on handhelds before moving to mobile platforms. That is, they'll sell a new game to handheld gamers early for $40, then a couple years later, sell it to mobile gamers for $15. Just like how movies soak people at the box office before being released for paid download, and finally for streaming.

As long as handheld games keep selling okay at $40 prices, this trend could go on for some time. But the next step is for handheld games to be designed with the idea that they will eventually be ported to mobile.

I actually don't see a future for 40 dollar handheld games.. Actually a lot of developers and publishers don't see a future in it.. Clearly the support has dwindled the last few year in an alarming rate.. I think you'll see a lot more mobile games ported to the handhelds with full content and of course smaller games then called under the hipster term: indie

I would love to see sales and revenue comparision with for example the Lego games, EA sport titles and more on ios and the handhelds.. I think that some franchises are doing much better on mobile then they ever would do on handheld..

Eh, I'd buy an Android version, but hell, I don't think Capcom even releases Android games.

We all knew handheld gaming would day someday, just like console gaming is going to die someday too! Let's embrace mobile with a big hug and start spending money on that shit!

Uhm... No. No way I'm paying for a mobile game, I have never paid for an app and don't plan to. When I got my first smartphone I used to download many different games (all free - stuff like Angry Birds, etc.) and had a lot of fun, but the magic disappeared shockingly quickly and I haven't had a single game on my phone for almost 2 years. Can't imagine myself installing a game on my phone - that's what my Vita is for.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

You forgot to include 70 to 80 percent of all profit comes from free-to-play. The dragon question is nowhere near the free to play games and very few played games at any price do as well as free-to-play. Your narrative isn't a very good one one when you just post graphs without explaining what is actually making money.

Sure i don't deny that.. the top f2p games make revenue only games like CoD, Assassins Creed, GTA5 can dream of.. Its like in the console business.. A few games take the most of the money.. Its more about the disbelieve by a lot of members that mobile is making money even with f2p.. But there is enough room next to f2p games to have premium games.. Its a process that is happening and paying of for companies like Square Enix.. They ported DQ8 to the unity Engine just for smartphone.. Vita can run Unity but didn't get the port.. They remade Final Fantasy 4 the after years in 3D and its a mobile exclusive.. Thats telling a lot about the market.. Square Enix regularly pumps out premium games next to their f2p titles and clearly its working for them.. You'll see more publishers taking this route cause the monitiaztion on mobile isn't set in stone and still an ongoing process..

The only surprising part here is that Capcom didn't go with pay2win route.
