The trend developing is that premium mobile games will window on handhelds before moving to mobile platforms. That is, they'll sell a new game to handheld gamers early for $40, then a couple years later, sell it to mobile gamers for $15. Just like how movies soak people at the box office before being released for paid download, and finally for streaming.

As long as handheld games keep selling okay at $40 prices, this trend could go on for some time. But the next step is for handheld games to be designed with the idea that they will eventually be ported to mobile.
