Forums - Sales - Brasil Sales Rankings - March 2014

First, i just want to say that i checekd the rank every week, but the month just suddendly changed from january to march, without any mention to february. There is a chance that they updated the games, but not the month, i don't checekd if was in fact any change on the ranking besides on the month. In either case, i lost the february data, so this site as well. Blame VEJA magazine!

In the wake of brazillian market as the fourth country in the world in gaming market, and fifth in consoles alone(take that, random europe first world country), it's time to start track down this sales. The data is from GFK brasil, and is publish monthly by veja magazine. They only give us the ranks, not actuall sales off each game(like in UK), and monthly, not weekly. They realease some notes too, but i not this month, appeareantly. The numbers were around here for some time, but i tried to get a declaration from gfk about the official launch of PS4, X1 and WiiU, but so far nothing. So, don't expect them to start traciking next-gen for now. The numbers:

X360:

1 FIFA 2014

2 PES 2014

3 Call of Duty: Ghosts

4  GTA V

5 Minecraft

6 Just Dance 2014

7 Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Signature Ed.

8 Batman: Arkham Asylum

9 Gears of War: Judgement

10 Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe

PS3

1 FIFA 14

2 Call of Duty: Ghost

3 Gran Turismo 6

4 PES 2014

5 Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag Signature Ed.

6 GTA V

7 Batman: Arkham Origins

8 BF 4 Ed. Limitada

9 God of War: Ascension

10 Dark Souls II

Wii

1 Just Dance 2014

2 Just Dance 4

3 The Legend of Zelda Twiligth Princess

4 Chaves

5 Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games Sochi 2014(!)

6 Super Paper Mario

7 Super Mario Galaxy

8 PokérPark 2: Wonders Beyond

9 Nintendo Selects: Super Mario Galaxy

10 Super Mario Galaxy(!!) Wii Sports Resort

So, i think this paint a clear picture about the brazillian market. First of, I double checked, there is no typo in this list, MK versus DC and Arkham Asylum really made to this the top 360. Probably some retalier made a sale on those games.  Yet, the only new game on the list is Dark Souls 2, on ps3, but still managed to lose to God of War. Because the high price of the launch games is my bet, so the Cod games managing to stay on top(problably another price cut). The games on number one are booth soccer games, altough i'm impressed that pes 2013 don't show up.

The oddest ranking is the wii one (un)surprisinly. This is like the first time i saw zelda win mario on a sales rank, well done. "Chaves" is a tie-in to a popular comedy from the 80s that still is exhibted.  But here comes the odd part: Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games Sochi 2014 is a WiiU only game! But somehow got featured on this list. I could bet that is a error on GFK, that could not diferentiate a wii game from the wiiu ones. They even managed to scrap any wiiu resemblance from the pic on the rank:

Incridible how even people in the industry managed to make such a mistake. This says more than you need to know about brazillian quality standarts and about nintendo presence around here, i think.  Interesting enough, Pokepark managed to grab a good position, even without appearing round here before, i think. Another oddity: mario galaxy managed to grab 3 postions!!! Yes, ok, one of then was as a nintendo select, but the other two(6 and 10) are exactaly the same! No special edition, neither a different case. Everything is equal.UPDATE: THEY CORRECTED, the 10th position for Wii Sports Resort

Since i alreadly tried to contact GFK before and never got a answer, this time i tried to contact veja, and i'm now waiting for a proper answer, maybe they can clarify this. Will update if something changes or if i get some kind of answer from then. I would like to say that i'm sorry too for not link to the original source in the others threads. That all for today, folks. Comment below!

Glad to see Brazil give Super Paper Mario some love!

10 on Wii should be Wii Sports Resort according to the source.

And Mario & Sonic @ Sotchi 2014 being the best-selling Wii U game is really weird. Maybe the customers thought it was for the Wii.

They needs to incorporate PS4/Xbone/WiiU ASAP.

I miss the early reviews too... since late 2012 they didn't show a yearly review anymore.

Got any proof of that ?

They did a yearly review... I just missed this time lol.

  • Manufactured consoles in Brazil growed 92% in 2013
  • 713k in 2012 to 1.37m in 2013
  • Consoles sales revenue: US$360 million (R$ 870 milhões) in 2013
  • Consoles manufactured here: Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3
  • Consoles sales units: 1.36 million (200k in November, biggest month)
  • 423k Xbox 360 was manufactured in 2011

Last year, we had during the BGS (Brasil Game Show- "Brazillian E3") a presentation made by Oliver Römerscheidt, from GFK, the same one that provides the UK chart every week. He stated that, in video games, we alreadly surpassed UK, Spain and Gemany( we are still losing for France). Its important to remark: we are talking about money alone, not units. So, if we consider that the  average game in europe cost €50 and in brazil its cost €60, we should consider that there is a chance that this number is not exactly straight foward.

Another point: this data is from september 2013. The consoles launched in november potentialy revitalizated the market in europe to some extent in some countries. But this not necessarily applies to brazil, since the cost of then are still too high(ps4:US$1900, X1: US$900).

But ih still don't trhust me, here some pics:

Tracking sales in Brazil is quite complicated, since a big part of the videogame sales there are imports.

We could say that a small part of the North American market is, in fact, Brazilian, since most of those imports come from the USA, but it´s difficult to track exactely how much.

Another problem is that there´s A LOT of piracy here. Many of those hardware sold are modified, specially Wii, Xbox360, DS, to be used with copycat games, so while the hardware sales are probably bigger (in money, due to excessive cost) than some European countries, official software sales are still lower than them.
