Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox One isn't Number One, but that does not equal 'Doing Terribly.'

if this was true then xbox one would have won the last 4 npd's

Since release Xbone was ahead PS4 in US in 7 times incluind the two last weeks of April that everybody knows will change after adjustments... 7 from 23.

That it... 30%.

Other 70% have PS4 ahead Xbone.

I took a picture from the VGC numbers... can you see where Xbone "frequently sold more"?

Nice to see Vgchartz correct their numbers in March thanks to NPD and puts PS4 in front of X1 in March too.

April will probably the same.

No one can deny that Xbox One had a really good launch. Unfortunately for MS, the forward is dropping much like the Wii U, though not quite as quickly. MS keeps boasting about the One being over 360 sales, but in the coming months they are going to have to stop, as the 360 is starting to catch up quickly. Just last quarter it chipped away 550k from the One's lead. Next quarter it may chip away 1M, as it shipped 1.8M for the same time period, something the One has no prayer of doing.

360 truly didn't pick up until 2008 though MS has about a couple years of saying that point.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

It is doing alright but I am getting anxious about the indie games, there is nothing on the Online Store. But I guess E3 will be huge for MS this year, so, it will only get better and better. It is a pretty decent console and it does some cool things =D

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.

Question isn't being in last place considered poor?

Depends on the context of "last place".

Xbox One is currently sitting in 3rd place behind a record smashing console and a console that launched 12 Months earlier. On the other hand, the Xbox One is the best launch for an Xbox console in history, along with being the most expensive console to boot.

On the other hand, the Xbox 360 is sitting in 3rd place behind the Wii and PS3. It has sold 80 Million units, had a gigantic increase in marketshare, brings in huge profit and has been the dominant console in America for around 3 Years.

Last place? Its not the desired place to be... Doesnt mean its a poor effort.

Ahh, that makes sense. And it's weird: 360 might be finishing third, but it seemed much more successful at the time.

Overall, despite selling less than the PS3, Id argue that the 360 is a bigger success story. Like I said in my reply to cmeese47 -

Gigantic increase in marketshare
Bringing in huge profit
Leading console in America and the UK
Huge software sales
Kinect success
Further brand growth in expanding markets

There is a lot of success behind the 360 despite it finishing in 3rd place for the generation. Total sales are just one thing, there is a bigger picture behind the numbers.

I agree with that assessment as it relates to the 360 but the XBOX1 is losing marketshare, not producing mass profits at least not yet, and is losing ground in its money areas of the US and UK.

Don't see why it has to be so black and white.

X1 profitable out the gate (most likely 360 profit is helping) and is outselling 360 in the same timeframe. And this is before MS REALLY gets their act together and releases globally and unbundles kinect. Xbox doing just fine.

When you say profitable i assume you mean just the console itself on a unit by unit basis? Because there is no way in hell the X1 as a whole is profitable yet, considering how much money MS have poured into it. Same goes for the PS4, though i imagine to a lesser extent.

"I'm amazed by what I see repeatedly online, and especially in the forums here: an assumption that the Xbox One, by virtue of not being number one, is doing terribly"

If you were a PS3 fan, you would be familiar with such an assumption.

Just pointed out that 360 had nothing to pad its losses in its first few years. X1 has the benefit of having any losses turned into profit by 360's sales now. X1 may or may not be profitable, but at least the XBox brand is, which you couldn't say in 2006.
