Exactly how it sounds! 3DS Sells 50Mil Worldwide Lifetime, Is It A Success or a failure in today's HH market?

Of Course its a huge decline bt take into consideration the time and place 3DS is in........ What Is It?

Losing 1/3 of your market in a period of time where your Sony's marketshare diminished to practically 0 is in no way a success.

It will sell a lot more than that lifetime, but, the 3ds is nothing less than a success.

it would be considered a small success. considering the rise of the smartphones of course. but 3DS needed to slash one third of its price just 6 months after release. lost shit loads of money in the process, and most of its sales comes from those times when it was losing money.

also, the 3DS came after the most successful handheld ever, and if it sold just one third of the DS while also crushing the competition, it doesnt seam like it did a very good job at attracting the old DS users. its not like vita stoll any users away from it, it in fact crashed and burned, leaving the door open for the 3DS to do mega numbers, but it didnt.

It's a success as long as it's made them money (I'm assuming you're talking about this from Nintendo's point of view).

With 50 million hardware sales and a lot of software sales I would assume they're making decent money, and they should get 70 million lifetime which is a great figure for any piece of hardware

Even if they stopped providing software for the 3DS right now...it would still sell over 50 million easily. Probably closer to 60 million. Assuming they have software for it for at least another year or two, 3DS should comfortably reach the 70+ million range, which I think is quite a success in this world of supposed "mobile domination" where "handhelds are dead." That being said, 50 million lifetime I think is still "decent"...but Nintendo would be disappointed and people would make a big deal about only reaching a 3rd of the DS's market share. But the DS was an anomaly, like Wii. 3DS is primed to reach about the same success as the GBA in sales, which shows that there is still room for dedicated handhelds in the market, provided the software is strong enough, as the 3DS' fabulous library has proven.

Upcoming Games To Get

Definite: Kirby Star Allies (Switch), Mario Tennis Aces (Switch), Fire Emblem (Switch), Yoshi (Switch), Pokemon (Switch), Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4), Monster Hunter World (PS4)

Considering: Fe (Switch), Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Switch), The World Ends With You (Switch), Ys VIII (Switch), Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition (PS4), Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Remix (PS4), The Last Guardian (PS4), Shadow of the Colossus HD (PS4), Anthem (PS4), Shenmue 3 (PS4), WiLD (PS4)

fail it would be the least succesfull Nintendo handheld

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

All Nintendo handheld are over 80 millions unit sold, losing  30 millions of your audience is definitly a fail

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise

Nintendo's marketshare actually grew so yea it's hard to say it's not a success. The market is shrinking that's just how it's gonna be now, next gen isn't gonna be any better unless Nintendo's next handheld is a phone or something.

currently playing: Skyward Sword, Mario Sunshine, Xenoblade Chronicles X
