Forums - Gaming Discussion - Lets look back at the awful Wii U launch advertisement video

You think that ad was bad. I still remember the 30 second menu load times.

they should do something like this gamecube commercial

I want a GameCube now! Wait, I already have one.

Most Wii U commercials in Germany are on kids channels, but there were some spots with Steffi Graf and Andre Agassi on regular tv.

I kinda liked that one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A_2HvLr21vI

There trailer makes it look like you look at the control more then the screen -_-

I like it.

I am quite uncomfortable. I've come to expect happy families in neutral or white rooms from Nintendo. Not these families in the setting of some rave club with a rainbow of colors and dubstep music.

Who's hurt you, Nintendo?

The real concern is whether those poor bastards are still trapped in those boxes.

People are still talking about the WiiU?

Apparently,

The ad was alright except for the music.

I don't ever remember seeing that commercial on TV in the weeks leading up to or following the Wii U's launch. Being in low rotation on TV didn't help things any. But the ad itself doesn't really seem to do a good job of selling the system. By focusing too much on the tablet and not enough on the system itself or its games, it's clear to see how lower-information consumers might be mistaken in thinking that the Wii U was a tablet accessory to the Wii. The commercial does little to establish that this is indeed a next-gen console. It's quite simply a bad commercial. The commercials they had this past holiday season, while they weren't all that great (they only targeted kids and families), at least tried to establish that, yes, the Wii U is a new system. The gamepad was already a tougher sell as a gimmick than the Wiimote, but poor marketing compounded the situation. Add into that an arguably less-than-ideal price and a weak library in the first 10 months after launch and it's no wonder the Wii U has struggled.

To be honest, I myself barely knew about the Wii U being a new console when it came out well after 8 months after it launched, and I spend a lot of my time playing games.

The Ad might have been flashy, but its effect was even worse than the PS3's commercials.

Unless you knew that the Wii U was a new console prior to the AD, the AD will literally tell you nothing about the new console. I mean even in typical wii ad style they don't show the on screen gameplay footage long enough for people to look at it and say

"hey this looks much better than last gen"
