Ok, a little calculation example for you. Hypothetical numbers because I don't want to look up the real numbers. X1 5million, PS4 8.5million, so PS4 needs 1.5 million to make it double. Now the PS4 sells 150k each week while the X1 does only 100k. Forward 30 Weeks X1 now has 8 million and PS4 has 13 million. Does this look like double to you? Why doesn't it add up? Because not only does the PS4 have to close the 1.5 million gap but it also has to keep up the status quo of 2:1. That means to reach the double in 30 weeks the PS4 needs to double the X1 PLUS 50k every week... 250k. 8.5million + 250k*30 = 16 million. And of course I'm talking about Halo 5 which I expect to hit early next year around the time of UC4. |
damn, its too late for mathz, 2:20 am here but thanks for the example.
I dont think Halo 5 is coming this year, I thought Halo 2 was all but confirmed this year, I'd really want it to come out, good mp.

Seems really late for you^^ It's the same time for me though ;)
But to reitterate: The PS4 would need to make the double before the holidays because I don't believe that the PS4 will sell double in November and December. That's already hard to achieve during the summer. And after the holidays it will be thrown off the path again. And after the Holidays there is Halo 5 so not a good chance to catch up either. I see the only chance for the PS4 to double in 2016 if the X1 tanks.

Sales will be 3-1 sooone enough, and nothing X1 has to stop it. X1 will not tank but it will get out sold more then double over all.
Also as its been pointed out by the xbox faitfull, PS4 has no games. Its killing the X1 whiel lacking software, While X1 has arguebly its 2nd biggest (3rd biggest for sure) franchise out already.

I hope you realize that to reach this the PS4 has to outsell the X1 from now on every week with more than 3:1. Basically US has to become Europe.
Selling more than your competitor is easy. Selling double on a regular basis is not.

True ture.
But there is precident, German sales have jumped between 4-1 and 5-1 Spain is likly as bad if not worse. France should near it sooner or later.
All US has to do is what it did in Feb. And the world will quickly make up the numbers.
Then there are games, Wach dogs Destiny will bump PS4 hardware, not X1.
Destiny could really really hurt the X1

There is no Halo 5 after the holidays, just a remake of Halo 2.
It's obvious PS4 will sell much better in november/december with Japan+europe+US where X1 will just sell well in US.
Predictions for end of 2014 HW sales:
PS4: 17m XB1: 10m WiiU: 10m Vita: 10m

If that were true I'd invite you to a beer but sadly I think there will be a Halo 5 in the near future.
The PS4 will easily outsell the X1 in Nov/Dec but will it be double or more? I doubt that.

Sadly, i live too far away to have my beer( edit : oh not so far after all ). Well it depends on what is Halo 5 for you, if it's " Halo 5 demo included in Halo 2 remake" then yes, there will be. But the real game will come in 2015, it has been confirmed by several sources ( like the masterchief voice actor ).
Well, i dont see why the PS4 wouldnt continue to sell with such ratio for christmas, even if X1 sell a bit better in US, it cant beat europe+japan , so it will at the very least continue to sell 2 times better.

I don't know where people are getting this but I have not even once said that Halo 5 will be released in 2014. In fact I was the first to scream that it will not be released in 2014. I'm still talking about early 2015. Which is close enough to give the X1 the needed holiday boost.
Another holiday boost will come from the price drop announced at E3 and yet another one because of all the other exclusive games. That's why I think PS4 and X1 will be quite close this holiday. Even if the PS4 sells 50% more in these months it's still far away from double. And remember it needs more than double to achieve the goal of this thread.
