Forums - Sales Discussion - Prediction: Wii U will put up a fight against the XBO

It is not impossible, but it would need a really strong PS4 domination, so it would really put XBO on a exclusives fight against Wii U.

Still not sure if PS4 can gather everyone like that in USA, but since XBO has nothing on japan, than it could be...

Xbox One because marketing, this NFL season alone will have more marketing than Wii U's whole 2012-2013. It looks like Wii U commercials are for kids channels, and kids don't buy consoles. They have to wait until the holidays or their birthday. Adults will buy the Xbox One throughout the year and holiday even though its $200 more because of marketing 3rd party games, exclusives, and the popularity of the Xbox 360. MK8 and SSB aren't enough for a whole year.

Reasons why:

[] With the PS4 chosen as this gens leader (E3 will guarantee PS4 the lead in the U.S IMO) this will damage the XB brand more than the Nintendo brand. As more people pick the PS4 it will become the "friend" system leading to even more PS4's being sold. More PS4's means less XBO's and while this will also hurt the Wii U, it won't be as severe.

Quite the opposite. The X1 will win this E3. Maybe not by a big margin but it will have the biggest surprises.

[] Following up from the last point, some gamers will get a secondary system to go with the PS4. Since the XBO shares much of its library with the PS4 and the PS4 is now the "friend" system, it will come down to the exclusives. While some will of course go with the XBO, numbers show that Nintendo exclusives are overall more popular. They also differ from Sony's 1st party.

Dual console owners don't impact sales early gen.

[] Price: Wii U is currently $300 while the XBO is $450 to $500. This means that the Wii U is more affordable and can get to a mass consumer price much sooner. This will lead to quicker secondary system purchases for the Wii U. People like to say that the Wii U already had a price cut but it didn't. It got a GB upgrade and some bundles but that's it. Nintendo is growing a decent library of games for the Wii U and while none of them have been system sellers at the moment, eventually, the price will get low enough for people to see it as worthwhile to buy it for 3D World, Tropical Freeze, and so on. Mario Kart 8 will play a big part in this even if not noticeable until the price is lowered.

 The fact that so many people will buy the X1 over the WiiU makes it obvious that the price doesn't matter early gen. So far the price hasn't helped the WiiU so why would it suddenly?

[] Mario Kart 8 will eliminate the weekly gaps in favor of the XBO. By the time May 30th rolls around, sales for the XBO will drop severely. I see no reason as to why they wouldn't considering nothing will be released during that timeframe. While XBO sales struggle during the Summer months, the Wii U will get a boost. I believe Wii U will outsell the XBO most of the time during the Summer.

Mario Kart is not a system mover. The system is a Mario Kart mover. It will certainly not boost sales consistantly.

[] This Holiday won't favor the XBO over Wii U. Many people believe that this Holiday will be the final push that the XBO will need in order to pass the Wii U. I however think they will sell equal to each other during that time. (With Wii U potentially beating it) This is because of families with children. Everyone knows that kids dominate the sales during the Holidays, and Nintendo has the advantage here. Not only will MK8 be released, but NFC games as well. With a price cut to $250 or an NFC bundle of sorts, the Wii U will be put in a great position. Throw in Smash for the gamer crowd and you got a system that appeals to all types of people.

The last holiday didn't favor the the WiiU in the least. Despite 3D World and other promises on the horizon. With that pricecut, a great 3rd party lineup and Halo on the horizon there's not even a chance the WiiU will do as good as the X1 next holiday.

Again, this isn't to say that the XBO won't pass the Wii U but it'll be much tougher than people anticipate.

None of these points reflect reality.

they didnt droped the 3d. the 2ds is for kids, 3d wasnt working in the childrenmarket because  it could harm children eyes.

they made the 2ds to capture the kidsmarkted with pokemon.  the 3ds XL is still the main handheld.

Releasing the 2DS did drop the 3D though. As in it is now optional.

If the Gamepad was dropped for a new Wii U SKU, the Gamepad version would still exist and be the "main" console.

Dropping the gamepad now would be near catastrophic. It would completely fracture the market, and as long as the PS3 and 360 are on the market it wouldn't stand a ghost of a chance. Possibly later it could fill the role of the last gen consoles but only after this year.

Dropping the Kinect now would be Catastrophic. It wouldn't split the market as much as the gamepad, but it would probably result in a market wide UI change, which MS has done in the past, but it would cost a lot of money. Furthermore, the X1 would have to compete with exclusives against the PS4, which has the multiplat and exclusive advantage, which is arguably its weakest aspect in relation to the other two. Plus most of its exclusives are multiplayer which depend on XBL subscription, which will actually be a bane to casuals, since they wouldn't want to pay the subscription for multiple consoles, the opposite could apply to PS4 but it has popular support so its less likely.

The Wii U and Xbox One are trapped by their peripherals.

Yeah, i don't think that XOne will sell much more...
i think that for end of year:
PS4= 15,000,000
Wii U=10,000,000
XO= 9,000,000

End of generation:
PS4=150,000,000
XO=50,000,000
Wii U=40,000,000

wii u is a more casual console, more likely to be bought by someone as a present for someone else (i.e. present at christmas from parent to child) where as xbone is more likely to be bought by the person who actually uses it. This is reflected by how Nintendo sales peak to a higher ratio at christmas compared to other consoles. Also wii u is much, much cheaper to manufacture. wii u will be the first to reach a budget price point which is often when huge sales of previous generation consoles have sold well.

I watched many Titanfall xbox one videos recently. Screen tearing, low frame rates and generally much weaker than even an entry level PC can achieve like AMD A8 6600k which is cheaper than xbone. The 360 version does get close to matching the xbone experience for gameplay. The xbone version only runs at 768p. It's horrible quite frankly. Even the ps4 hasn't really pushed hardware this generation but the xbone is frankly awful. Obviously still far more powerful than wii u but for me the xbox brand sells itself on powerful hardware, that was true of the original xbox and 360 but not xbox one. It's hard to justify buying a xbone when the ps4 exists.

For me the ps4 momentum will increase and take larger market share and the wii u will take a healthy niche at a lower price point. Xbone is already dead in mainland Europe. I mean utterly dead, most of the xbone sales in Europe currently are from the UK. If ps4 starts taking a significantly larger market share in the USA than xbone then xbone will be in a hugely dangerous area. We are talking a japanese situation for xbox one in mainland europe.

XBOX 360 have sold 80,000,000 in total.

But, the 20,000,000 is casual, because the best seller is Kinect Adventure with 20,000,000, and other 10,000,000 will decide to buy PS4, and no XO.

So,, for me XO will sold unless 30,000,000 of X360: 50,000,000...

That means nothing. I got an Xbox 360 with Kinect and I'm not a casual. Plenty of people bought the Kinect 1 without being a casual. It may be a dust collector but you can't just say 20m = casuals because of that. That's like saying majority of PS3 owners are casual because they use Netflix.

Forces will not be 20,000,000, but minimum 15,000,000 yes.

And, to be honest, I went plan with the proportion of users who leave XBOX for PlayStation... i said 10,000,000, but for me they are more.

The XBOX have sold 25,000,000...

55,000,000 of more have sold the 360.

This 55,000,000 is much casual, and above all user of PS2, that have buy 360 and not PS3, but in this generation buy PS4 and not XO...

They are generous with XO... maximum 55,000,000... not more.
