Well there needs to be some degree of wackiness, or it's not Metal Gear Solid.

The original Metal Gear Solid has a great story. It's simple, grounded and has some very powerful moments. MGS2's was good to begin with, but goes completely off the rails at the end. I mean REALLY fucking crazy. MGS4's is mildy crazy throughout, and it'd need to be to explain the clusterfuck that was MGS2's ending, but if you keep up with the jargon, it certainly has its moments.

I love MG.
Though that part MGS4 where Liquid Ocelot says "you're pretty good" has been stuck in my head for the better part of 4 years :P

The only thing I have to say about Metal Gear Solid is that it's one of the best series in gaming, both funny and heartfelt with solid gameplay.

And Ground Zeroes wasn't worth the price.

..ans Sutherland sucks as Big Boss.  It seems like he just doesn't respect/care about the character.

I think the series should just end. Enough is enough.

On MGS atm.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT, LIQUID SNAKES VOICE ACTOR IS THE SAME VOICE FOR MALE BLOOD ELVES IN WOW!?!

Everytime he talks all I see is a pointy ear'd girly man with green eyes!!

Do you need to play Metal Gear 1 and 2, or can i skip them and start with Metal Gear Solid?

MG2 had more story than the first, you could sum up Metal Gear in a few sentences.

So far from what I've seen, all the events in the Metal Gears have already been mentioned in MGS.

MG 1 and 2 can be skipped. Don't go and play MG NES version. That sucks. You can even skip MGS 1, if you bought the HD collection like me. And not miss much going through timeline order. I eventually got a ps1 copy of MGS 1. It fills in the story gaps I was confused on. But I felt fine skipping the games first go around.

I've seen my friends play MGS1 and MGS4.  I always found the story somewhat interesting (minus MGS4's nanomachines), but the gameplay never really clicked with me.  I never looked into the entire story though.  I could easily just read the entire thing via a wiki but I wanted to experience it.

So I've been watching hours upon hours of Let's Plays, watching in order of the time line.

MGS3 was first and I mostly enjoyed it.  Started with a good plot twist and never really dropped the ball story wise.  I wish'd there was more about The Boss and Snake's past tho.  I also found Ocelot very off, especially near the end.  But the after credits blew my mind and had me wanting more.

Portable Ops seemed off, not bad just off.  it felt like it was written by someone else.  I liked the cutscence style tho.  Was a bit forgettable tho.

Peace Walker was my recent viewing.....and well....while it seemed to capture MGS3's magic.....that ending......

I mean yeah the whole plot twists of "hey I was the evil boss/double crossed you" had been done and was expected....

I also am quite used to Japanese game culture, so fan-service I was used to.

But the whole 16 year old, in her underwear, in a bi-pedal tank with a nuclear warhead, monologuing about a new world order.....

That suprised me.....

And then there was a special side mission involving her on the beach...again in her underwear....where you can attempt to grope her?

Was this as big as a WTF for any of you as it was for me?

Now I'm on to Metal Gear for the MSX.

I don't expect as much crazyiness for it and its sequel but have I just touched the surface of wackyness?

After all those hours watching Let's Plays, have you felt compelled on getting at least one MGS game? Yes, they're all on Last-gen consoles except Ground Zeroes. But is there a game you feel like playing?

I don't own any Sony Consoles.

Twin Snakes I hear is really rare and expensive to find.

I am compelled to get Meat Gear Rising for the PC tho, more so that it was made by Platinum Games, but now that I am getting the story figured out its pretty much solidified my reason to purchase it.
