It should be able to catch up to the PSP pretty easily, and relatively soon. It's weekly software numbers have been good, and it still has quite a few big Japanese titles coming.
Does the award go to GTA V for being the final game that pushed it over the edge?

Nice PS3! It is possible to achieve 80 million software at the end of life cycle in Japan

I think so too. I wonder what PS2 did |

PS2 sold over 222 Million units of software in Japan. Only beaten by the original PlayStation and the NES.
Would it be reasonable to predict that PS3 would have more digital sales than Wii? So probably sales of all software has probably been higher on PS3 than Wii for some time.

It's a fact that will pass PSP. It will end up at 75-80 millions or so. Not bad considering the lower userbase compared to its predecessors.
Pretty easy accomplishment, given that few, if any, Wii games are still being made since the Wii U released. Nintendo dropped the Wii support too early, if you ask me. It didn't start dying until Nintendo slowed down support around 2009 or so (Until NSMBW), and dropped too fast after the surge in 2010.
