Plus I think Ricky the Dragon Steamboat needs alittle love on this thread as well as Ravishing Rick Rude.

His match with Randy Savage at WM 3 is one of the best pro-wrestling matches in history. And Steamboat's performance at WM 25 with his age was just out of this world. Another guy who needs a little credit in this thread is Savage. The guy was the only one that could dispute main event attention with Hogan (he himself said that about Randy). And his matches with Steamboat and Flair were complete masterpieces (I like the one with The Ultimate Warrior too).

It was incredible to play the 30 years of Wrestlemania mode on WWE 2K14. It's really nice to play all the most important matches in all WMs and with video content to show storylines and feuds.

Yeah, I loved Savage's character back then; he was vicious before he became a good guy.  That was a good match, although I HATE George The Animal Steele.

Come on, this shit might be staged but look at it. Look at it.

The first bump was staged, but Foley actually dislocated the shoulder. The second one wasn't, the cell shouldn't break like that and he actually suffered a concussion and was rendered unconcious for a few minutes. And we still had the thumbtacks in the end. Foley was brutal, he actually said he can't remember the entire fight and had to watch it on video to write in his book.

One more thing, Taker was fighting with a broken foot that night too.

Absolutely! The Mega Powers separation angle was an amazing work, specially his promos. As a face, I really enjoyed his reconciliation angles with Ms. Elizabeth.

I'm not a big Hogan fan, but I still have to say Hogan. Hogan was wrestling's biggest star during the era when wrestling became a big thing, so it's Hogan by default. It's the same way that characters like Mario and Mickey are timeless because they got in on the ground floor.

You know when people do the whole "Wrestling is fake gaiz hurr durr!!!1one" thing I always wonder if they also go into every entertainment discussion and point out other forms of entertainment are fake? You know just in case we were having fun or something.

"Game of Thrones is fake gaiz, more like LAME of Thrones amirite!!"

"Avengers is soooo lame, it's like dudes pretending to be suerheroes"

"Dude, Criss Angel ain't a real wizard, his magic is FAAAAAAKE"

etc.

Reality shows are usually more staged than pro wrestling, but nobody talks about that in the same condescending manner...

Everyone has known wrestling was staged for decades, ever since it was at circuses and was called "Athletic Shows" you can find editorials that hint at the nature of the bsusiness, and just because you thought it was real when you were a kid doesn't mean you need to ruin it for others!

-snip-

P.S. I voted for Hogan

But they learn how to fall!

Mick Foley needs some love. He said he has had over 300 stitches in some interview.

And its funny that people say its Hogan and Rock, even though they put on a dud of a match together at Wrestlemania.

I like Foley and all, but Jim Cornette makes a good point about how backwards that kind of thing is. Professional wrestling was supposed to be guys pretending to hurt each other but making everyone think it's real, and ECW and the like is people hurting each other for real in front of a bunch of people who all know it's fake.

obviously wrestling is fake, but it was still entertaining to watch (eventually got boring since I kept watching for years and years)
Hogan was probably the best entertainer of all time imo. The rock is close second.

Hulk Hogan!

Ask someone to name one pro wrestler...

and i'd bet person that gets named the most is Hulk Hogan.

If your looking for a "Total Package" (apologies to ric flair) you probably can't beat Ric Flair.

People like to bag on Hogan and Cena's wrestling skills, but Austin and Rock weren't exactly amazing technical wrestlers either.

and honestly, I only mention rock because people have and will mention him.

Rock was a second Banana to Austin who only outshone him when Austin was out.

I'd place Randy Savage over Rock any day of the week. Savage was both better on the mike, better technically... he just had even less room to shine because he was opposed Hulk Hogan.

Bret Hart was an amazing technical wrestler but he wasn't great on the mike. The anti-american stuff worked good, but it also worked well for Ivan Koloff.

Shawn Michaels had the tools to be up there but squandered them, and really never was at the very top. Same for his running partner Trips.

The Iron Shiek!!!! and people we're talkin bout rasslin not wrestling like the olympics lol
