I agree it's not the sole reason, I just consider it one of the more damaging ones.

There is some merit in this argument. The Wii U's offering is very similar to the 3DS ( by that I mean most games are new iterations of proven franchises ). The Wii U needs to bring games that are new and unique in tandem with the nintendo's core games.

That's it, that's all. There was no reason to continue on from this as it all went down hill. The 3DS is not cannibalizing the Wii U, the Wii U has already cannibalized itself with the help of Nintendo proper.

I think there is a lot more to it than that. It may play a tiny part but in no way is it the reason for the Wii U's underperformance...

Mock the Vita? I've been one of the few who's always maintained that it's not doomed and will go on to be a modest success, haha. I'm more optimistic about Vita than most Sony fans! XD
