In what way?

The whole "my console can run the games your console can" and "the hardware difference is such and such" is even older than HD res wars and refuses to die and it's such a tired argument, it was the same with the constant bickering between 360 and PS3 fans all through the 7th gen too. This particular OP is especially meaningless since we all know that FFXV won't come to the Wii U in any case.

Ah now I understand. Fanboys always need to justify their console preferance over another though it's a psycological issue were they see any insult of their console of choice as a personal attack on them, so this silly fighting and bickering isn't going to give up because there fight is more important to them then the actual games and just enjoying what they have

Yeah but the internet—forums in particular—has really pushed fanboy wars more. I don't know if it was this bad in the 90s or the early 2000s. The anominity of it really pushed the bickering and constant attacks on each other.

That's true, it wasn't as bad back then because it wasn't as connected as we are today via the internet. You mostly got arguments and impressions from monthly publishings or your friends and their friends, odds are that your friends have pretty similar tastes though so the huge battles weren't so common. Now, you have people with polar opposite stances taking pot-shots at one another from halfway across the globe and the internet also provides easy access to information to back up arguments, but is simultaneously a portal to misinformation unless you know where to find credible material. Chaos ensues.
The internet is the perfect spawning ground for childish arguments and dispute, that said; vgchartz is still my favorite forum on the whole web since isn't nearly as bad as most other places.
