Other M was a good hardcore game, but a bad Metroid game.

The gameplay was broken (for reasons that KylieDog pointed out) which led to a ridiculous hard mode that drastically changed the rules of the game. When a game has to do something like that, it's clear that it is badly designed.

I knew you would say this.

It still have a fresh gameplay and with some changes it can be a good Metroid.

I think pretty much everyone agrees:

The gameplay/graphics/visuals in this game are amazing and unlike any game before or after it.

The problem is the story. And yes, Nintendo fans almost by definition favor gameplay over story...

But that doesn't mean we like "bad story." That's actually why we prefer gameplay to story...game makers usually screw up story. It's true. The plots are usually derivative at best and far-fetched impossibilities at worst.

I certainly would be all for a retelling of the Metroid, Zero Mission, Super Metroid games in this graphic/gameplay style. It would in effect create three distinct types of Metroid experiences: 2D, 2.5D, and 3D. No complaints from me there.

That's part of why Nintendo fans are "anti-story" though. While Good Story > No Story, No Story >> Bad Story. A game will be remembered worse for having something and doing it poorly rather than skipping it altogether (like online play in Brawl).

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I would love Metroid Other M 2

Nintendo should release a game that allows you to toggle between Zero Suit and Power Suit which would handle like Other M and Prime respectively. This would give the best of both worlds and give the game more variety and a more dynamic feel...

Better: keep the gameplay, make new assets and call it a new ip. Nobody will complain.

I really do think this is the crux of the Other M problem. By portraying Samus as vulnerable, subordinate, and, in some instances, helpless, Sakomoto challenged fans' conceptualizations of her. Had the game launched as a new IP there would be significantly less fan outrage.

@OP: I actually agree with you. I think Other M is an underrated game. That being said, I don't see much need for a sequel. I'd much rather have a 2D sequel to Fusion on 3DS and/or a first-person Metroid using the WiiU GamePad.

You mean Zero suit in third person and power suit in first person? Wouldn't be a bad idea, but why would Samus chose to be in her Zero Suit in the first place?

The Zero Suit could add some great stealth sections though.

Zero Suit samus would be faster and better in close quarters as well as being much better with platforming (first person platforming is terrible). She would also have a different set of weapons (like in Smash Bros) which may be useful in different scenarios. However, as a tradeoff she would have less health and do less damage as well as being unable to scan things...

An amazing game.

Announcing Metroid Other M 2 would be the dumbest mistake they could do.

Nope. That was Tropical Frezze.

A fixed Other M game can be hyped.

Other M is unfixable, no one wants another Metroid: Samus and her Maternal Instincts. Just give us a good classic Metroid game.

Other M's gameplay was fine. Team Ninja wasn't at fault for the game. Nintendo was. They were responsible for the hated narrative of the game.
