Forums - Sales Discussion - Industry not dead after all - PS4, One, WiiU all undertracked! (NPD)

Although the Wii U isn't performing as well as the PS4 and X1; still great numbers all around.

I'll just copy what I said in the NPD thread:

"wow this month was a total miss for vgchartz

BTW

NPD February 2007

360: 228,000 (or 161,000 if we want to use its first February)

PS3: 127,000

The industry is dying my ass."

So as several people have been saying: the console decline is completely a Nintendo thing

That was when the 360 and PS3 were still selling horribly.  Wanna throw the Wii numbers up there?  You're comparing it with the sell rates of failing consoles..  That was when developers were threatening  Sony because they were selling less than 100K units a month.   The Wii which won the generation with 100 million sales was selling over 200 000 units a week and almost a million a month.  Yes this is for the same time span, the first month of february after the console launched in december.

If you compare the PS4 numbers to that right now, its doing absolutely miserably.  Either that or Sony is VASTLY underproducing...  The problem here is that they need not just some sales to support their console, but ALOT of sales.

Those Wii casual gamer sales are gone - they're not coming back to Nintendo and not going to Sony or MS either.

So yeah, the decline is completely a Nintendo thing.  Sony & MS seem strong.

My 8th gen collection

Not dead, you're right, but still basking in the glow of pent up demand from an unusually long generation. Gen 8 will still be a lot smaller than gen 7. But it'll probably be big enough for at least 2 of the 3 to give consoles one further generation. After that though, the console as we know it is done.

Some nice results for both PS4 and Xbox One.

I really wish that the WiiU was a more viable console

Hmmm, Xb one will see lower market share and lower total sales than 360 in the long run (people hoping across to PS4), so strong is a relative term. And globally Xb one is doing terribly. The only console likely to see gen on gen growth is PS4. So actually the decline is mostly a Nintendo thing but also somewhat of a Xbox thing.

Except you need them to buy the PS4 because those games are expensive as hell to produce.  GTAV cost like 265 million.  You think that can be supported with 10 million console sales?  Also, Sony fans are the ones who put a poll up in another thread asking how much the PS4 was going to sell and the lowest number was the same as the Wii at 100 mill...  I said that 70 mill was realistic and had angry Sony fans down my throat.  So which is it, are those numbers coming back to the PS4 or is the PS4 gonna be a hardcore only system?

If you want a more valid comparison, then it should be compared to the PS2's launch.  Afterall, PS3 was when Sony F'ed up horribly and destroyed their entire games platform.  This is supposed to be Sony's return to glory.

yea, because the PS4 stockpiled for a year before release just so they could break all previous launch records.  Sony knows what its doing as far as console launches and marketing go.  Those records they broke were a marketing ploy, I wouldn't even call them a sign of market growth.  When Wii launched, it had parking lots full of people waiting outside the stores the night before, and only a handful of them went home with Wii's.

The Xbox numbers are impressive. I can only imagine what March Will look like.
