It would be extremely smart of them to allow for USB3 HDDs to work for games since the internal one is way too small for future needs. The same goes for the PS4, they need to get on with that shit as well, I mean, look at the Wii U that's already doing it (though it's USB2,) and it's way less advanced.

it has always been the plan for Xbox one it was just not ready at launch.. The question is just when... And its coming this year that's what's been said anyway

We all know corporations will promise you a lot of shit but will not always deliver so I never take them as facts until they happen. PS4 external HDD will not work with games ATM, it's on the wish list for PS4 owners. I just hope they don't go with BS like "you will have to buy our brand of external HDDs or it will not work." stunt later down the line, that will really piss some people off then. If anything, X1 users shouldn't have to go through the BS of the 360 HDD days of pure non-sense.

I generally do like the Xbox One's OS, but it does need a little touching up. New updates can only make things better in time. I only wish Nintendo were as punctual when it comes to improvements though, I'm still waiting on folder support for the Wii U. :/

But would you rather just plug and unplug an USB device or open shit up? I did swap HDDs in my PS3 a few times for different purposes but lets face it, it's a fucking console, users shouldn't have to deal with that kind of bullshit.

but I noticed a lot of PS owner claiming they prefer the swapping solution to the external solution... I'd take the external every time especially with the massive amount of data I store in general...

I would rather change the hard drive than have a USB one personally.
