On one hand this is no big deal, who fucking cares.

On the other hand it's goddamn hilarious to any regular user of this site who has had to sift through thread after thread of baiting, recycled BS regarding resolutions and frame rate. How many threads and posts have we witnessed going on about 1080p60 and how any real gamer can tell the difference and should accept nothing less? And it turns out that for months some of these guys championing this rhetoric were enjoying their 1080p60 Killzone 6 and even praising it for such here on this forum and it turns out even they didn't know it was actually not full HD, was a lower resolution AFAIK than RYSE of all games, and is actually 50fps and not 60.

I think this should render any future resolution and frame rate shenanigans null, void, and irrelevant.

You can't honestly believe that. This is literally the exact same situation as last gen except with role reversal.

I wasn't posting here most of last gen. Not sure what you're asking if I honestly believe though. My 2 word response to anyone pulling resolution shenanigans on me from this day forward will be Killzone Six. I recommend others follow suit.

I do not think we will be 1080/60 that much this gen. Consoles are just by nature weak.

Sigh. Neither of the console's have particularly powerful GPU's even at the generational outset this time around.

I understand the fiscal necessity of that decision, I really do. Still, its a bit disappointing.

Please qualify your use of words there.

The PS3 was too expensive and lost a tonne of money upfront, the Xbox One - whilst not losing money - is clearly too expensive upfront.

Gamers cannot afford to purchase $600 consoles en masse, and console manufacturers cannot afford to subsidise ~$100-200 worth of per-unit cost.

Hence, instead of costing circa $600-800, the hardware in the two new consoles costs circa $400 (not including Kinect).  It is therefore relatively less impressive for its day.

haha, I thought it was "embarrassing that a next gen console couldn't do full 1080p" and now The Order and this and many more games will not be full HD ps4 games. I hope this will put an end to these annoying endless arguments about frame rates and resolutions, but this gen PS fans will keep gloating how their games look so much better than X1 games. To be fair to them, xbox fans were very arrogant last gen about third party games being better on their console so I guess these arguments will never end.

What is really embarassing, and people seem to dont understand that,  is paying $100  more for a less powerful hardware when the other console $100 cheaper has the best versions of the games, then you have the possibility to get a better version of the games for a better price. So no, obviously, having a better framerate or  better resolution, better everything( yes, people are to focused on these 2 things whereas there is many others technical aspects) for a better price will always be a thing, and that's the way it should be, that makes sense if you're a smart gamer. Why pay more to get less when you can get more for less ?

( + The Order will be full HD quality so the resolution isnt a problem there, before talking about resolution, you should know why people ask for a better resolution, still, at the moment, only very few PS4 games are not 1080p , even if that isnt the only important thing of course)

What you, and so many others, don't seem to get, is that the value of a console isn't just in the hardware. This isn't like buying a PC, or deciding between two Android phones, here. When you purchase a console, you're buying into a closed ecosystem - the hardware purchase price is like a sort of entrance fee that gives you the right to enjoy all the unique software that Playstation, Xbox, or Nintendo has to offer. If the software and features on one system don't interest you, then naturally you go somewhere else.

Actually, I'd equate choosing between an XBO and a PS4 to choosing between an iPhone and some high-end Android or Windows smartphone. Sure, the iPhone is more expensive, and probably weaker, but that really isn't the deciding factor. You're gonna buy the phone that has the apps, functionality, and ease of use that appeal most to you. Specs may drive you to upgrade an old device, but when the time comes to choose which device to upgrade to, specs, and even price, are only portion of the bigger picture.

So, everybody should have bought a 360 last gen right? Same price, better multiplats? And everybody DEFINITELY should have bought a Xbox over a PS2 right? Xbox should have outsold PS2 50-1, right?

Anyways, one phrase keeps coming to mind about 960X1080 Shadowfall.

You live by the sword...you die by it...lol

gpu are gettig to cheap, the gap is to little for consoles. they cant cut the price so much with buying millions of chips because the gpu prices are so low that other factors make a bigger impact than the chip itself.

Yup. Specs are one part of the picture, albeit a very very important one in video games. More important than phones for sure.

The actual games on One/PS4 will show like 5-10% difference. People will say PS4 is twice as powerful, some multiplats have had twice the pixels, twice the framerate...but ignore that it doesn't translate into a 2X better looking game, or even close. Go look at countless videos to proof that.

One and PS4 games look a whole lot more alike than they do different. Heck at a glance it's often hard to tell PS360 games from next gen versions, forget PS4 from Xbox.

Some people ignore there's any number of reasons that may trump +/-5% worse looking games. Online, friends, controller preference (the biggie for me) UI, OS, Exclusive games lineup, Kinect...

That said, price is a big deal, and MS does need to drop theirs.

That's actually a really clever trick.

Well, no analogy is quite 1:1. :) But yes, diminishing returns, and all that jazz. Don't you just love it?

I do think the current sales trends tell us that $500 is more than most people are willing to spend on the system.

Still, if you're one of those who thinks it is worth it, good on you. In the end, it's your money, and your gametime.
