Forums - Sony - The PS4 Is Outselling the Xbox One Because It Appeals to 'Swing Gamers'

Although the Xbox One had been selling well out of the gates, it recently came to light that the PlayStation 4 has charged ahead; in fact, in January Sony moved twice as many units of its latest-generation console than Microsoft did. For some, this may come as a surprise, since the Xbox 360 was generally considered to be the dominant console in the many years before these new consoles came about.

Basically: Fifty-one percent of gamers who already owned a PlayStation 3 have bought a PS4; 42 percent of gamers who owned Xbox 360 bought a Xbox One. 14 percent of Xbox 360 owners decided to jump ship and pick up a PS4, whereas only 8 percent of PS3 owners decided to buy an Xbox One instead.

Nearly two-thirds of gamers that owned both a PS3 and Xbox 360 bought a PS4, DealNews said; less than a quarter decided to get a Xbox One.

Looking beyond the numbers, the number one reason a previous-generation gamer hasn't yet purchased a next-gen system - whether it be one, the other, or both - is price.

"... there were notably a higher number of former Xbox 360 users who didn't purchase any new console yet, claiming that the price was too high and that they were waiting for a deal."

Lock if old. It was an interesting read so I thought I would share. Full article is at the link. I only included he graphs.

Does that mean it appeals to gamers who share their wives? I guess that Twitch support is a big deal for them.

better multiplatform performance for me, plus the E3 thing committed me to the PS4.

Gives the "share" button a whole new meaning, certainly.

8% from PS3 to XBO is a bit of a surprise...

It seems like everyone's jumping to the same conclusion. Didn't even cross my mind.

Nintendo created the group, Sony took them and expanded the popularity thus expanding the amount of gamers with multiplats and then Microsoft divided Sony's share after two generations of dominance. It should be common sense by now that multiplat gamers are "Swing gamers".

Ive said it time and time again that the mass majority of gamers like third party games the convenience and price of console and have zero loyalty to any brand. They want their COD, GTA, Madden and Asssassins Creed. The only brand that has ignored this fact for years is Nintendo because of how they treated third parties back in the day.

Those swing gamers that you speak of are really a part of Sonys old marketshare that they expanded during the PS2 era. Sony got them hungry off of multiplats just like Nintendo did previously. Microsoft hasnt expanded anything since they joined though (roughly 24 million consoles sold their first gen), they are just taking from Sony's share.

Sooo this basicly means most ps3 owners were just really confident in sony and are buying a ps4 right away, a lot of xbox 360 owners did the same but more waited,
And a slightly bigger proportion of 360 gamers jumped to ps4 compared to ps3-xbone jump
Am I getting this straight?
