Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Stephen Elop May be Bad News for Microsoft’s Xbox Division

How many threads do we need on this? This must be over ten over the last few months now.

Its frankly pretty pathetic and sad that certain users feel the need to keep on posting this nonsense.

I'd like it to be a bannable offense to simply post news items with zero comment from the OP.

Excuse me?   I post and comment in all the threads I create and take part in discussions. This article didn't need a comment from me, the substance spoke enough of it. Talk about bannable offense, I'd pit my moderation history against yours any day of the week. Just because you don't like anything remotely negative about your console doesn't mean I can't post the article. Every time Sony goes into junk status and a financial turmoil comes out on Sony's end, your the first one in the line so don't give me that crap.

We'd lose quite a few people that way.

I wonder why he is considered a good fit for the division? We really could be looking at an XBox sell-off in a few years.

A Nintendo-Former MS Studio superconsole does sound pretty exciting, in the event that ever happened.

Sure it more than likely Microsoft would not spin off the Xbox division, but those acting like this is completely out of the realm of possibility are being pretty naive. Considering there has been recent rumors of talks with Amazon (whether they are true or not is impossible to tell).

Couple with the fact that the division isn't exactly racking in a ton of cash, and is such a small piece of Microsoft's overall pie if they got the right deal they would easily dump it especially with its early struggles out the gate and the general consensus that console gaming market is likely to decrease due to mobile and F2P gaming models. I still bet they keep it, or at least ride a few more years into this generation and see how it goes. But I would not be the least bit surprised if they found a more eager company to spin it off to because honestly Xbox isn't that big of a deal to Microsoft. They wouldn't even lose sleep over it.

"While the Xbox One and Xbox 360 sold 3.9 million and 3.5 million units respectively, gross margins for the Devices & Consumer Hardware division were down 46% to $0.4 billion."

One horizontal stroke away from Flop, huh?

We shall see. I think the fear is that Elop has been put in charge in order to whip the Xbox division into a salable state. If the goal really is liquification, it will be apparent soon enough. No need to jump the gun with assumptions at this point. Because he was hired to kill a business before does not mean that's all he can accomplish.

I'd second that. The forum doesn't exist to be a news site, it exists for discussion. Rather than just quote the entire article and say nothing else, it should have a link to the article, and a few comments on it, possibly a smaller quote from the article as reference to what the OP is commenting on specifically.

really? so posting news should be bannable? because thats what the suggestion really is.

Only posting news that Kowenicki doesn't like. It's perfectly fine for him to post dozens of articles about Sony's financial status.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Still think that worst case scenario is that MS sells "Xbox" under some conditions that it is still somehow an important player in its digital storefront.

Logically someone like Google, Amazon would buy it. But it would also be interesting if Nintendo bought it for the IPs and development talent to hit its most glaring missing content.

Oh my God the meltdowns would be historic! It would genuinely help Nintendo, too. Though it's not clear how well they could integrate it into their brand, or how much boycotting from former Xbox fans would happen. They might want to keep the Xbox brand name alive and separate from Nintendo to minimize both problems, but that would have it's own complications, like trying to support two brands. It'd be interesting to see how they handled it, that's for sure.

there is nothing in this guys history that makes me feel good about anything related with xbo.
