Doubling the xbone doesn't mean the ps4 is doing amazing numbers. The xbone is underperforming. 500 dollars is not at a mass market price. Ps4 is doing very similar to Xbox 360 sales beginning of gen. This telling me, less people are interested in console gaming. Selling out, quickly when your very under stock isn't amazing. Wii was definition of under stock because after coming out of the GameCube, no one would have thought it would even sale 100,000 week global. You could see this by it nosediving in sales. Going from 100,000 to 30,000 for months.Ps4 is ranging from 60,000-89,000 in USA. What this is telling me is that usually early adopters are picking up to the amount that is reasonable not wii levels. Basically Sony is producing the amount it would have sold anyway by a few thousands difference.

You can forget Japan. Winning Japan in the console market it has today is like winning an ugly contest.

its frustrating but what I cant understand is how they are not keeping up with demand, there only selling a few hundred k a week. comparatively mobile phone makers can make millions of devices a week and laptop and desktop makers but console seems to be very restrictive in production capacity. im guessing stinginess as demand will settle in a few months and they'll be left with more factorys

You cannot compare smartphone production with console production.

the former occurs constantly and has the majority of the tech industry investing in it and developing for it add to the fact that the infrastructure is already there

In comparison, consoles are a rare occurence in the tech industry that are only invested in and developed by a single company, that essentially has to create its production factories or outsource to a single company.

Consoles are barely comparable to PCs/Smartphones/Tablets

In regards to production, they are vastly distinct, im mean they both have chipsets, but cars and boats both have engines.

I would say its Sony trust and their support they shown in PS3 recently witht games are the inidcation that sony will give great games and also its the powerful console.



GAMING is not about spending hours to pass/waste our time just for fun,

its a Feeling/Experience about a VIRTUAL WORLD we can never be in real, and realizing some of our dreams (also creating new ones).

So, Feel Emotions, Experience Adventure/Action, Challenge Game, Solve puzzles and Have fun.

PlayStation is about all-round "New experiences" using new IP's to provide great diversity for everyone.

Xbox is always about Online and Shooting.

Nintendo is always about Fun games and milking IP's.

Yeah, right. Only thing is that X1 is outsellling 360 by a ratio of 2.29 (according to MS). And Sony is outselling X1 1.5-2:1.

PS4 is still tracking above Wii without Japan. Did you have a good laugh now?

Why is the PS4 hype crazy? Because the PS4 is the truth!

But seriously speaking it is due to a longer than normal generation leading to greater pent up demand. The console that the gaming market prefers usually tends to dominate in every sense. The Wii in my opinion was the exception not the rule where it sold the most hardware when the motion gaming craze took off while receiving minimal third party support which was split between 360/PS3.

We can see that with the exception of Gen 7, Gens 5,6 and 8 are following a similar pattern in that a single console dominates in hardware sales and receives overwhelming third party support.

On a personal note I am very relieved to have bought my PS4 at launch here in Australia as it has been out of stock since then. I bought it mainly for the promise of future great games especially infamous of which I am a great fan of. But looking back even though I haven't been playing my PS4 as much as my PS3 lately it was a great choice because it would not be easy to get my hands on a PS4 before Infamous second son releases.

the wii and ps2 were also doing well in Japan. (a market that has changed and that the ps4 isn't available in yet)

lol about the iphones. There are more iphones sold a year than than all consoles and handhelds combined. Even the best year of all consoles and handhelds the number was shy of 100million units of hardware. and thats just comparing to iphone. not even mentioning tables ipods and droid. It's a market much bigger than dedicated gaming ever was.Unlike console markets it's continued to grow and not had a console life cycle. Though any give iphone probably lasts less time than any given console.

but if you must compare the ps4 to phones. how many iphones how did they do in there first quarter? 0.27 mil second? 1.12 third? 2.32 and 4th? 1.7 it took a few years before the iphone was selling more in a year than most consoles sell in a lifetime.
