My first one was... Anyone care to take a guess for brownie Points? Heres a hint

I've been looking for that, too expensive over here ($84).  I do have Children who chase lost voices on blu-ray, comes pretty close to Ghibli magic.

Yea!  He was my favorite as a kid.

I think my first Blu-ray was a Harry Potter movie.  But it might have been Halo: Ledgends as Halo on a Blu-ray was just too funny to pass up.

I also really like Blue Planet, but I haven't purchased a blu-ray in a few years now.

I'm a sucker for these turtles...well the first 2 movies at least. So old and cheesy but so not taking themselves seriously is what I love, and the JCVD action scenes! What's not to love?!?! haha. I used to have a few of their comics as a kid too, not bad. The mindset of MS3k might assist a person in watching them completely all the way threw though. ;)

Ha ha ha!  Early 90's before Power Rangers, these were THE thing.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.

Top 50 'most fun' game list coming soon!

Tell me a funny joke!

Have you watched Ponyo btw. Most impressive hand drawn animation I've seen. My kids are addicted to it, it's probably been played over 50 times already. I went straight for the blu-ray when it came out so can't compare it to dvd, but it looks amazing on blu-ray. Perfect line detail and color.

I just watched it on youtube. The animation is amazing.

It's to similar to the Frog Prince fairy tale story from the Brothers Grim. Or even a Beauty and the beast. Or any movie that has an animal/sea creature example Little Mermaid etc. Evolve instantly at some point in the story and fall in love with a human. It's been done to death imho, and there wasn't anything I found new and interesting besides the animation.

It even ended with a a kiss and a looney tunes stylized zoom in circle. Eek! That's so cheesy imho. It's banal! If it was the first movie or fairy tale with that plot I had viewed like your children maybe I would've enjoyed it, but I've seen it to many times to be impressed by it once again. It was like eating a cheeseburger (For the hundreth time) but this time! With the ketchup on the bottom instead of the top!!!!  Big deal.

How's that for a scathing review? I think Spirited Away and even Mononoke have storys we don't see to often (or at least not over saturated/overkilled), and as you get older I like more original/different storylines from my entertainment. That's me. The voice acting was par or below as well for me on the English dub. It's a good homage film with beautiful animation, and also with overdone themes. So for me it's a cash grab at worst and a retro homage at best. Yep I don't prefer it, and if it wasn't for the animation I doubt anyone would care about it. Maybe I missed something in the movie though.

Someone on Amazon said it well and gave Ponyo 1 star he/she said.

It's a movie, not a painting. It needs to have a story.

I agree with that and even compared the Ponyo's father to a cross between Cher and Steven Tyler lmbo! I could complain and go on for longer but yeah the story/chars are a mess for me too.

The ending grows on you. It's a perfect lead into the song at the credits.

It starts at 47 minutes in exactly, cheesy but also very likeable.

Hiyayo Miyazaki explains on the blu-ray that he wanted to make a movie about a father having to accept his children growing up, and he used the little mermaid story as a background for that.

I watch movies more like paintings with music, interesting stories are usually better suited to books. Baraka and Samsara are among my favorites. But I understand what you mean. I watched Pacific rim last night and got bored halfway through, anything that could have been interesting story wise was put to the background in favor of the usual cliches and macho bullshit. Before that I watched The master. That's an interesting story, lot of food for thought.

Any recommendations for movies with interesting stories? I'm always looking for more stuff to watch.

I only have two blu-ray purchases. The Man With No Name trilogy and the latest Gamera trilogy.
